This disclosure relates to CO-philic crosslinked polyethylene glycol membranes useful for natural gas purification processes. Also provided are methods of using the membranes to remove COand HS from natural gas.

CO-philic crosslinked polyethylene glycol-based membranes for acid and sour gas separations

Compositions, devices, and methods relating to the use of mixed-matrix membranes containing metal-organic frameworks to separate gases are generally described. In some embodiments, branched nanoparticles made at least in part of metal-organic frameworks are described. In some embodiments, the morphology and size of the branched nanoparticles are controlled by the presence of a chemical modulator during synthesis. In some embodiments, the branched nanoparticles are uniformly distributed in a mixed-matrix membrane. In some embodiments, the mixed-matrix membrane is configured to separate one or more gases from a gas mixture. In some embodiments, the branched nanoparticles contribute at least in part to an increase in permeability, selectivity, and/or resistance to plasticization of the mixed-matrix membrane.

Branched metal-organic framework nanoparticles in mixed-matrix membranes and associated methods

A polymer membrane, methods of gas separation utilizing the polymer membrane, and methods of producing the polymer membrane are disclosed herein. The polymer membrane includes a crosslinked polyethylene glycol network polymer according to formula (I):

Composite membranes include a polymer material that is selectively permeable to heavy (C) hydrocarbons over methane. The polymer material may be a modified poly(dimethylsilane) having a backbone including dimethylsiloxyl monomers, substituted methylsiloxyl monomers, and internal-network monomers. The substituted methylsiloxyl monomers may include phenylmethylsiloxyl monomers or C-Calkylmethylsiloxyl monomers such as octylmethylsiloxyl monomers. The polymer material may include silicon-alkyl linkages such as Si&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;Si, where n&#x2265;2 that may create a structure that imparts desirable permeability and selectivity characteristics to the composite membrane. The polymer material may be cast onto a porous support material. The composite membranes may be incorporated into systems or methods for removing heavy hydrocarbons from natural gas.
