In embodiments of document layer extraction for mobile devices, an image service can receive a request from a mobile device for a multi-layered image, and the image service generates a layer extraction as a full-resolution image of each of the layers of the multi-layered image. The image service can then generate a component representation of the layer extractions that correspond to selected layers of the multi-layered image, where the layer extractions are independently editable in the component representation. The image service can then communicate the component representation of the layer extractions that are independently editable and correspond to the selected layers of the multi-layered image to the mobile device for use with an image editing application on the mobile device, and the image service receives image edit changes made to one or more of the selected layers in the component representation of the multi-layered image from the mobile device.

Document layer extraction for mobile devices

In embodiments of document layer extraction for mobile devices, a cloud-based image service can receive a request from a mobile file browser for a multi-layered image, and the image service communicates an image preview and image layer previews of multiple layers of the multi-layered image to the mobile device for display. The image service generates a layer extraction that is a full-resolution image of each of the multiple layers of the multi-layered image. The image service can receive identifiers of layers that correspond to user selections of one or more image layer previews from the mobile device. The image service can then generate a component representation of the layer extractions that correspond to the identified layers of the multi-layered image, and then communicate the component representation of the identified layers to the mobile device.

Techniques are disclosed for dynamic digital image compositing using a digital image template. A request is received to generate a composite digital image at a user-specified resolution based on a master digital image. Each of a plurality of digital image templates includes image data representing a different, particular resolution of the master digital image. The digital image templates can be stored in a common file with the master digital image. One of the digital image templates associated with a resolution that is at least as high as and closest to the user-specified resolution is selected for compositing. Composite image data is then generated based on the selected digital image template. Next, the composite image is rendered based on the composite image data and scaled to the user-specified resolution.

A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for rendering an artwork comprising a first plurality of objects. At least one common attribute shared by a second plurality of objects in the artwork may be automatically identified. The second plurality of objects may comprise a subset of the first plurality of objects. Each object of the second plurality of objects may be automatically assigned to a group. It may be determined whether the group is located within an area to be rendered. The group may be culled if the group is not located within the area to be rendered.

A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for rendering artwork using a graphics processing unit (GPU). The GPU may comprise a depth buffer and a stencil buffer. Artwork input comprising one or more dirty regions and one or more clip paths may be received at the GPU. A culling operation may be performed on the artwork input. The culling operation may comprise configuring the depth buffer to reject pixels located outside a union of the one or more dirty regions. A clipping operation may be performed on the artwork input. The clipping operation may comprise configuring the stencil buffer to reject pixels located outside an intersection of the one or more clip paths.

A virtual view tree for representing a document. A virtual view tree is maintained by an application, rather than a renderer (e.g., graphics rendering library) called upon by the application to display the document. The view tree is virtual in that nodes need not be created until they are to be displayed. When instructed to display the document, the renderer requests nodes and their attributes. The nodes may be cached while the renderer works on their content, but may be removed from memory anytime thereafter. Only a subset of the virtual view tree's nodes is stored at one time, and only in non-persistent storage. The application includes various APIs for navigating a virtual view tree, describing its attributes and caching its nodes. The APIs may be directly accessible to the renderer or may be invoked by subsystems of the application (e.g., client, tree navigation and caching subsystems).

A system for blending graphical objects using planar map representations is described. A page description representation of an input document's graphical objects is converted, at least in part, into a planar map representation. A color is assigned to each region in the planar map as a function of the region's associated paths' transparency characteristics. In one embodiment, if the graphical processing system exhausts its memory during processing, those paths already converted to planar maps are rasterized. Any subsequent processing of graphical objects is thereafter performed in raster format. In another embodiment, an output page is divided into tiles where each tile may be rasterized independent of the other tiles. In yet another embodiment, graphical objects are processed in reverse order compared to their arrangement in the page description language representation.

Apparatus and method for rendering graphic images as bit maps, including: (1) an input for receiving digital input commands; (2) a command interpreter to interpret the input commands and convert them into commands suitable for use inside the system; (3) a halftone screening section; and (4) a rendering section which outputs data suitable for use by a raster display or marking engine. The method and apparatus render multiple output pixels during each clock cycle and apply halftone screens or gray fills to an image.
