Current transformer circuit systems and methods dynamically switch a load. The current transformer circuit includes a current source circuit including at least one current transformer to produce a current output wave. A burden circuit includes at least one burden resistor and a voltage sensor, at least a portion of the current output wave to be passed through the burden resistor, and the voltage sensor to sense a voltage across the respective at least one burden resistor. A switch circuit includes at least one switch, the switch circuit coupled to the burden circuit. A microcontroller circuit includes a microcontroller, the microcontroller circuit coupled to a power circuit and the switch circuit, the microcontroller being configured to control the switch circuit to dynamically switch a secondary loading of the at least one current transformer between the burden resistor and a low resistance load.

Systems and methods for dynamically switching a load of a current transformer circuit

A modular overload relay provides a low cost analog base unit performing overload detection functions and one or more add-on units communicating with the base unit through an electric conductor on a side of the base unit to which the add-on module may be attached. The add-on units augment the circuitry of the base unit through additional analog or microprocessor-based circuitry communicating with various points within the analog circuitry of the base unit.

Modular overload relay system

A resistance network is provided for synthesizing a non-linear logarithmic response in the resistance of the network comprising a potentiometer from the change of the resistance of the potentiometer. The network additionally comprises a set of resistors. The potentiometer allows the resistance of the network to be varied, while the network manipulates the current in such a fashion that the input current required to produce a desired output voltage is a linear function of the resistance of the potentiometer. Incorporated into a current overload detection circuit, this allows an even spacing of the desired trip current settings about the dial of the potentiometer.

Linearly adjustable logarithmic output current sensing resistance system and method

A circuit is provided for rectifying and amplifying an AC input waveform to optimize the dynamic range of downstream circuitry, such as an analog-to-digital converter. The circuitry includes an inverting amplifier and a non-inverting amplifier. The inverting amplifier includes a selectable resistance network in a feedback loop that permits the gain to be adjusted by appropriate selection of conductive states of solid state switches. The non-inverting amplifier includes a selectable resistance network on an input line. A control circuit, such as a microprocessor, monitors the output of the A/D converter and controls the conductive state of switches in the feedback and input networks to maintain the digital output within a desired portion of the dynamic range of the A/D converter. Several discrete gains may be provided and programmed in accordance with a predetermined selection scheme.

Adjustable gain precision full wave rectifier with reduced error

A system and method for programming a Hall effect sensor while the sensor is connected into the circuitry for a given application. The system includes a fixture for receiving the printed circuit board to which the sensor is mounted. A plurality of contacts, such as pogo pins, are arranged to contact the circuit board at desired pads that permit programming of the sensor, reduction of the voltage applied to the overall circuit during programming, and measurement of the sensor and circuit output. The system includes a voltage limiting circuitry that is electrically connected, via appropriate pogo pins, to the circuitry intermediate the subject sensor and potentially damaged circuit components.

Technique for programming a programmable device while coupled to another component in a circuit

A technique is provided for identifying waveform period or specific events during a waveform period. A periodic waveform is an input signal for a comparator, voltage divider and a balanced load. The circuitry produces a square waveform that has the same period as the input waveform, but is phase shifted based upon time required for the input waveform to cross positive and negative offsets from a zero axis. The resulting timing signals may be used for analysis of the input waveform, such as for RMS calculations based upon sampling of the input waveform.

System and method for on-line hall sensor programming

A circuit for and method of controlling transient currents on power conductors includes a voltage-controlled switch connected between one of the power conductors and a load. A turn-on circuit is connected to the switch to control the switch during a transition period in which the switch changes from a non-current conducting state to a conducting state in which a static current flow to the load can be maintained. The turn-on circuit controls turn-on such that the rate of rise and the peak amplitude of the current through the switch is limited during the transition period. A reset circuit also is connected to the voltage-controlled switch to reset the switch to a non-conductive state when the voltage between the power conductors drops out. The reset circuit is configured to reset the switch within a reset period having a duration that is shorter than the duration of the transition period. The circuit and method are particularly suited for use in a network in which the power conductors provide electrical power to a plurality of nodes, and are even more suited for use in a network in which the power conductors and the data conductors, which transmit data between nodes, are disposed within a single media cable.

Current inrush limiting circuit with fast reset

A simple voltage window sensing circuit including a current indicator, two Zener diodes and two digital transistors wherein the diode breakdown voltages are selected such that they define the upper and lower voltage limits of a voltage window, each diode causing a corresponding transistor to conduct when the breakdown voltage is exceeded, the indicator in series with a first transistor which is controlled by the diode which defines the lower limit and the transistors in parallel such that the first transistor only conducts when a voltage is within the window and hence the indicator only indicates when the voltage is within the window.
