Systems and methods for using distributed Universal Serial Bus (USB) host drivers are disclosed. In one aspect, USB packet processing that was historically done on an application processor is moved to a distributed USB driver running in parallel on a low-power processor such as a digital signal processor (DSP). While a DSP is particularly contemplated, other processors may also be used. Further, a communication path is provided from the low-power processor to USB hardware that bypasses the application processor. Bypassing the application processor in this fashion allows the application processor to remain in a sleep mode for longer periods of time instead of processing digital data received from the low-power processor or the USB hardware. Further, by bypassing the application processor, latency is reduced, which improves the listener experience.

Systems and methods for using distributed universal serial bus (USB) host drivers

Universal serial bus (USB) communication systems and methods are disclosed. In particular, aspects of the present disclosure optimize polling and scheduling of bulk data transfers from bulk endpoints connected through a USB connection. By reducing the amount of polling, and by favoring endpoints that are known to have data to transfer, unnecessary signaling is avoided. Reduction in signaling allows more data to be transferred in a shorter amount of time. Reducing the time required for a data transfer may allow for low power modes to be used, which in turn further saves power.

Universal serial bus (USB) communication systems and methods

In a multiprocessor system, a primary processor may store an executable image for a secondary processor. A communication protocol assists the transfer of an image header and data segment(s) of the executable image from the primary processor to the secondary processor. Messages between the primary processor and secondary processor indicate successful receipt of transferred data, termination of a transfer process, and acknowledgement of same.
