A computing device comprises a primary printed circuit board (PCB), one or more computing components mounted to the primary PCB, a baseboard management controller (BMC) mounted to the primary PCB, a power subsystem, and a logic device coupled to the primary PCB. The power subsystem comprises a power controller with a first logic pin, and the logic device is communicably connected to the first logic pin. The logic device is configured to program the power controller by placing the power controller in a programming mode and inputting programming information into the power controller via the first logic pin.

A power supply unit (PSU) comprises power conversion circuitry to convert input power into output power for an electronic system, microcontrollers to control operations of the power conversion circuitry, and a secure element communicably connected to a first microcontroller. The secure element and the microcontrollers are all paired together with each storing shared pairing information. The secure element and the microcontrollers comprise security logic. The security logic may be configured to, in response to a power on sequence being initiated, validate the secure element and the microcontrollers based on the shared pairing information, and make completion of the power on sequence conditional on successful validation. The security logic may be configured to, in response to receiving a new firmware image for updating one of the microcontrollers, use the secure element to validate the new firmware image and make acceptance of the new firmware image conditional on successful validation.

A method, system, and device for using an interface controller to validate and authenticate controller code for a commodity device to be included within a computer system (e.g., a power supply) are provided. In one example, a commodity device controller includes dynamic memory for control software (e.g., control code to control operation of the commodity device) that may be validated (and/or updated) using an interface controller. The interface controller may perform this update/validation at startup (or run-time) to ensure secure control over aspects of the computer device including the commodity device control code. If a security risk is detected it may be mitigated in various ways, including disabling of the commodity device. Control code provided by third-parties (e.g., supplier of commodity device) may be validated and secured using disclosed techniques.

A power supply system includes a plurality of power supplies coupled to a common power bus. Each of the plurality of power supplies adjusts an output voltage set-point within a droop window in response to an excursion sensed voltage on the common power bus reflecting the current load on the power supply system. In response to a transient in the sensed voltage being above or below the droop window, each power supply may shift its droop window up or down. If the droop window of each power supply is at a maximum or minimum value within a voltage regulation window, each power supply may respond to a transient in the sensed voltage by compressing the droop window.

Examples described herein relate to a power management system. The power management system may include an input power filter coupled between a common power bus having a first voltage level and a load. The input power filter may include a variable impedance circuit coupled to an input capacitor. Further, the power management system may include a bus voltage controller coupled to the input power filter to detect a transient event causing a surge in a load current drawn by the load and to alter an impedance of the variable impedance circuit to limit an input current flowing via the variable impedance circuit, thereby maintaining voltage on the common power bus within a predefined range from the first voltage level.

Examples described herein relate to a system controller for tracking a characteristic system energy of a computing system. The system controller may retrieve the characteristic system energy of the computing system from a voltage regulator (VR). The VR may include a VR controller, one or more phase converters, and an output capacitor coupled to a load to provide an operating voltage to the load. The characteristic system energy is related to a sum of capacitances comprising a capacitance of the output capacitor and a capacitance of the load and is determined by the VR controller based on a voltage at the output capacitor and a charging current or a discharging current of the output capacitor via the one or more phase converters. Further, the system controller may determine whether to initiate a corrective action for the VR based on a comparison between the characteristic system energy and a threshold value.

In some examples, a trust controller generates a first value and send the first value to a target controller of a subsystem, and generates a first verification value based on the first value and a known good code image for the target controller. The trust controller receives a second verification value from the target controller, the second verification value based on the first value and a code image to be executed at the target controller. The trust controller determines whether the code image to be executed at the target controller is compromised based on the first verification value and the second verification value.

A power supply may include a power input to connect to a power source to receive an input power for the power supply, a bulk capacitor operatively connected to the power input, and a threshold manager having a processor operatively connected to the power input and the bulk capacitor. The threshold manager to monitor the input power, calculate a threshold to perform a shutdown operation based on a shutdown requirement provided by a computing device, and in response to a power loss of the input power, monitor a bulk voltage of the bulk capacitor and send an alert to the computing device to perform the shutdown operation when the bulk voltage meets the threshold.

An electronic fuse (e-fuse) for controlling input current of a load includes a transistor switch and a transorb device that is coupled in parallel to the transistor switch between a source and a drain of the transistor switch. A circuit comprising the transistor switch and the transorb device in parallel comprises a first end and a second end. The first end of the circuit is coupled to a power bus. The second end of the circuit is coupled to a first node of the load. The e-fuse includes an RC circuit comprising a resistor coupled in series with a first capacitor. The RC circuit is coupled between the power bus at the first end of the circuit and a return. The return is coupled to a second node of the load. The e-fuse includes a second capacitor that is coupled between the return and the second end of the circuit.

A system including multiple power supplies is provided. Each of the power supplies is configured to provide a standby power to a management unit in the system through a standby output and a main power through a main output, when an input power signal has been received for the system. The system also includes a resistor configured to receive a standby signal from each of the power supplies to raise a signal voltage, wherein the standby signal is a pre-selected current. The system also includes a controller in each of the power supplies, the controller configured to raise the signal voltage to the specified value when the signal voltage is greater than a threshold, and to enable the standby power from a respective power supply to reach the management unit when the signal voltage is within the specified value. A method to use the above system for a synchronized power supply to a management unit is also provided.

Example implementations relate to a variable soft start device. For example, in an implementation, the variable soft start device may set the capacitance of a variable capacitance circuit connected to a soft start pin of the electronic fuse. The variable soft start device may read a power-good signal from the electronic fuse and determine the capacitance to set according to the power-good signal.

An example power module includes an energy storage device, an energy storage carrier, and an electrical connector. The energy storage carrier houses the energy storage device and is removably insertable into a modular data storage slot of a computing device. The modular data storage slot has a data path and a first power path to removably couple to a data storage module. The electrical connector is to transfer energy from the energy storage device to a second power path associated with the modular data storage slot.

One example of a system includes a server, a plurality of power supplies, and a system controller. The plurality of power supplies are electrically coupled to the server and each power supply includes machine readable instructions. Examples relate to power supply system comprising a primary power supply to deliver a first power to a load and a secondary power supply that, in response to a failure in the primary power supply, is to deliver a second power to the load. The system further comprises a primary energy storage component coupled to the primary power supply that, in response to the failure in the primary power supply, is to deliver a third power to the load while the secondary power supply transitions from a lesser output power level to a greater output power level. The third power is at the same full-rated power level than the first power.

A method for synchronizing startup of a plurality of power supplies in an electrical system includes supplying input power to a first power supply to supply power to an auxiliary converter and an auxiliary controller. The method also includes monitoring, via the auxiliary controller, a signal shared by each of the plurality of power supplies. The method further includes incrementally increasing, via the auxiliary controller, a value of the shared signal to a next incremental value of a plurality of specified values. The method also includes enabling, via the auxiliary controller, each of the power supplies to supply power to a load when the value of the shared signal is set to a maximum value of the specified values.
