A system for monitoring an inkjet printing device and predicting failures or maintenance needs. The system includes one or more memory devices; a print analysis engine stored in the one or more memory devices to monitor the print output from the inkjet printing device, operation of the inkjet printing device, or any combination thereof; and one or more processor devices to perform actions, including: monitoring print output from the inkjet printing device, operation of the inkjet printing device, or any combination thereof; based on the monitoring, predicting a failure or maintenance need of the inkjet printing device; based on the prediction, suggesting or performing maintenance on the inkjet printing device to address the predicted failure or maintenance need; and, after maintenance has been performed, monitoring the print output, operation of the printing device, or any combination thereof to determine whether the predicted failure or maintenance need has been resolved.

A method for adjusting a modifiable printing parameter of each of a plurality of printing elements of a printing device includes printing a plurality of test charts for each of the printing elements at different values of the modifiable printing parameter; measuring a variance of a printing density for each of the test charts; analyzing the measured variances for each of the printing elements; individually selecting a value of the modifiable printing parameter for each of the printing elements based on the analysis; and applying the selected value of the modifiable printing parameter for each of the printing elements to the printing device. Software density compensation can be applied to further reduce the variance of the printing density.

Systems and methods for printer density compensation and stability

A method of creating a mask on a surface of a substrate is disclosed. The substrate comprises a plurality of spaced heating elements on or proximal to the surface. The method comprises applying a layer of masking material to the surface and employing the heating elements to apply energy to a phase change in the masking material at the selected sites such that it adheres to the surface or can be displaced from the surface to mask or unmask the selected sites respectively. A method of synthesising an array of molecules, an apparatus for selectively masking one or more sites on a surface and a semi-conductor chip that uses micro-heaters to modulate a masking layer on areas of the chip surface.

A method and apparatus for digital halftoning places curving structure centers at random locations within a halftone cell. Pixel illumination ordering is determined based on displacement from a pixel to a nearest CSC along a curving structure. Curving structures including spirals with varying numbers of arms, varying angles of departure, varying orientations, and varying other parameters are used to achieve visual aesthetics as desired.

A method and apparatus for digital halftoning provides evenly distributed intensity clusters within a halftone cell. Pixel illumination ordering is determined based on adjacency from a candidate pixel to other pixels already placed in the order of illumination. Separate head and tail intensity arrays are used so that pixel ordering proceeds from both the first and last illuminated pixels toward pixels in the center of the illumination order.
