A vibration dampening handle for a powered apparatus includes an elongated gripping member having first and second opposite ends and a longitudinal axis extending through the first and second ends, and a wall defining an inner bore and having an inner surface. The inner bore extending along the longitudinal axis at least partially through the gripping member, and opens on at least the first end of the gripping member. A weighted mass is disposed at the second free cantilevered end of the gripping member. An elongate elastic beam member is attached to the gripping member. A portion of the beam member is disposed within the inner bore and is spaced apart from the inner surface. The beam member further includes a first end that extends beyond the first end of the gripping member and includes a fastening member adapted to connect the handle to the powered apparatus.

Vibration dampening handle for a powered apparatus

A vibration dampening handle for a powered apparatus includes an elongate gripping member including a first end, a second end opposite the first end, a longitudinal axis extending through the first end and the second end, and a wall defining an inner bore and having an inner surface. The inner bore extends along the longitudinal axis at least partially through the gripping member, and opens on at least the first end of the gripping member. A weighted mass is disposed at the second end of the gripping member. An elongate elastic beam member is one of attached to and integral with the gripping member. The beam member extends along a region of the longitudinal axis and a portion of the beam member is disposed within the inner bore and is spaced apart from the inner surface. The beam member further includes a first end that extends beyond the first end of the gripping member and includes a fastening member adapted to connect the handle to the powered apparatus.

A power tool includes a tool body, and the tool body is subject to vibration during operation of the power tool. The power tool also includes a handle adapted to be grasped by an operator of the power tool for controlling the motion of the power tool, and at least one coupling member, where each coupling member includes a first end coupled to the tool body and a second end coupled to the handle and a longitudinal axis between the first end and the second end.

An orbital-action reciprocating power saw includes a motor-driven transmission that causes a saw blade carrier to reciprocate along an axis of reciprocation and move in a direction transverse to the axis of reciprocation to provide an aggressive cutting action. The transmission includes a rotary-to-reciprocation drive mechanism defined by a rotatably driven gear having an eccentrically mounted pin that engages a slotted yoke connected to the saw blade carrier. The saw blade carrier is mounted in a `floating` bearing that accommodates both reciprocation and movement in a direction transverse to the reciprocation axis. A rocker arm is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends with one end engaging the floating bearing mount and the other end engageable with an axial-face cam portion of the rotatably driven gear. The rocker arm is effective to move the saw blade carrier in a direction transverse to the axis of reciprocation to provide the desired orbital action.

Orbital-action reciprocating power saw

An annular composite washer assembly provides a 'soft' mount for a tool element subassembly mounted on the threaded output spindle of a portable grinder or other power tool. The composite washer includes a pair of flat annular washers and a molded body therebetween. The body has integrally-molded inner and outer annular bands joined integrally with the inner and outer diameters of the respective washers. A first pair of blind axial pockets, diametrically opposed to one another, extends through the first washer and the body and terminates at the second washer. A second pair of blind axial pockets, diametrically opposed to one another and shifted circumferentially with respect to the first pair of blind axial pockets (preferably by ninety degrees) extends through the second washer, through the body, and terminates at the first washer. A second embodiment includes a first and second set of three equidistantly circumferentially spaced pockets, one set formed through the first washer, and the other set formed through the second washer. The pockets formed through the second washer are shifted circumferentially by approximately 60.degree. with respect to the respective pockets formed through the first washer.

Composite washer assembly

An improved air replenishing and idling system for a reciprocating hammer type tool having an outer housing and reciprocal drive mechanism, comprising an elongated barrel mounted within that housing. The barrel includes an axially disposed, air passageway. Slideably positioned within the barrel is a piston member which includes a closed end portion and a hollow, tubular forward portion having first and second air passageways. The piston is reciprocally moved within the barrel by the drive mechanism. Slideably positioned within the hollow tubular portion of the piston is an impact ram. In the operational mode, the ram, tubular portion of the piston member, and barrel cooperate to seal or expose the first and second air passageways and provide a communicative path to the 'outside' air through the barrel air passageway whereby the ram is urged axially towards and away from the tool bit through the pressure differentials created. Further, in the idling mode, the first and second air passageways and the barrel passageway insure that the ram is inactive when the tool bit is removed or when the tool is lifted from the work surface.

Idling and air replenishing system for a reciprocating hammer mechanism

There is disclosed a tool retaining mechanism employing a nose piece including an axially extending, longitudinal bore which accepts the tool bit. The nose piece includes a first opening which is disposed so as to cut through a portion of the bore. Slideably disposed in the opening is a retaining pin which includes a first cutout which cooperates with the profile of the bore and the tool bit, in a first position, to allow insertion or removal of the bit. Means are described for urging the pin axially in its opening to a position where it cooperates with the contour of the bit to retain the latter in the tool once inserted.
