An imaging apparatus including an imaging system and an optical sensor for detecting a print medium within a paper path. The optical sensor may include at least one light emitter and at least one light detector. The light detector is configured to output two or more light intensities sequentially onto the paper path, which reflects from the paper path or transmits directly onto the optical sensor. Data indicating an amount of light received by the at least one light detector is received by the controller, which performs data analysis to determine the presence or absence of a print medium in the paper path.

Optical sensor with multiple detect modes

A piezo-actuated braking system for a stepper motor. The braking system has a disk fixed to the output shaft of the stepper motor. Further, the braking system includes a piezo-actuated brake having a clamping structure, including two brake elements positioned in alignment on either side of the disk. The piezo-actuated brake includes a piezoelectric element connected to the clamping structure to move the brake elements together, thus applying a braking force to the disk. Various embodiments of the braking system along with related methods are also described.

Piezo-actuated braking system and method for a stepper motor

A system and method for locating a product and associated information within a region utilizing a mobile application. Information such as location, cost, and productivity information with respect to the rendering device(s) can be stored in a database associated with a customer accessible unit. A mobile interface configured with a web browser can communicate with the database in order to locate an optimal product based on preferred criteria. A mobile application may include a progressive disclosure menu that provides quick access to productive print solutions and appropriate resources and contacts. The mobile interface can utilize the Global Positioning System to compare the current location to the closest location of optimal rendering device that meet the applied criterion.

System and method for locating products in association with productivity and cost information

In a xerographic printer, a transfer station is controlled to apply a constant current to the photoreceptor. A print sheet having a high moisture content will cause the control system to make a high voltage drain to maintain the constant current. A signal related to the voltage drain is used to control a decurler. The system enables the decurler to be controlled on a sheet-by-sheet basis.

An electrostatic marking system is provided having a power source(s) in each of its processing stations. A specialized power source is made up of two stepper motors in operative connection to a planetary gearset. This gearset is comprised of a sun gear, a set of planet gears supported by a carrier, and a ring gear. This power source provides a continuously variable gear ratio between each stepper motor and its load.

Planetary dual stepper drives

A quad roll sheet curl control apparatus uses elastomer first and second rolls forming first and second nips with third and fourth rolls. The first and second rolls have compressible surfaces, while the third and fourth roll surfaces are formed of a substantially uncompressible material. A pivotable gate member in operating relationship with the first and second nips directs sheets to either the first or the second nip whereby the desired decurling orientation is achieved for the sheet by either the elastomer first roll or the elastomer second roll. Switching nips and curl to be induced does not require drive reversal as previous decurler arrangements do. The degree of decurling can be adjusted with at least one cam in communication with at least one of the first and second rolls.

Quad-roll decurler

A tri-roll sheet curl control apparatus is described which includes an elastomer first roll forming a first nip with a second roll, the first roll having a compressible surface. The apparatus includes an elastomer third roll having a compressible surface which forms a second nip with the second roll surface. The second roll surface is formed of a material having a substantially noncompressible surface. The apparatus further includes a pivotable gate member that is in operating relationship with the first, second and third rolls so as to direct a sheet to either the first or the second nip so that the desired decurling orientation is achieved for the sheet by either the elastomer first roll or the elastomer third roll.

Tri-roll decurler

A xerographic CRU (Customer Relpaceable Unit) for an electrophotographic printing machine. The xerographic CRU has retaining features and cooperates with a drive module with certain retractable features that allow the insertion and removal of the CRU without causing damage to the photoreceptor and other critical subsystems. The unit further has many locating members for other subsystems so that critical tolerances are maintained. An interface with a single handle assembly retracts/unlocks and extends/locks the drive module and the associated CRU subsystems into an operative position. The CRU also has electrical and drive connections for the cleaning system, the charging system and transfer/detack.
