A tire comprising a crown extended by two respective sidewalls and two respective beads, a carcass structure anchored in each side of the tire in said beads, said crown comprising at least one reinforcing ply having parallel reinforcements oriented at an angle &#x3b1; relative to the circumferential direction ranging between 10 and 45 degrees, a first crown reinforcement having cords substantially oriented in the circumferential direction and being high elastic modulus at high stress organic fiber cords, and a second crown reinforcement having cords substantially oriented in the circumferential direction and having a ratio &#x3c4; of the tensile strength at high strain and high temperature to the tensile strength at low strain and moderate temperatures inferior to 1.5.

Tire tread

A tire comprising a tread at least one radialIy outermost reinforcing layer of belt reinforcing textile cords arranged substantially at a zero angle with respect to the mid circumferential center plane perpendicular to the axis of the tire, a carcass a tread compound which is in direct contact with the radially outward side of the cords.

The invention relates to a pneumatic tire wherein the crown has a ply comprised of substantially circumferentially oriented cords which are spirally wound. The winding pitch p of said cords is greater than 2.5 times the cord diameter &PHgr;. The tread compound is applied directly on said cords. This arrangement facilitates tire fabrication and assures good adherence between the tread compound and the rest of the crown of the tire.

The tire has a single layer of cushion compound between the cords of the carcass reinforcement that are furthest radially outward in the crown and the cords of the belting that are furthest radially inward in the crown. The single layer of cushion compound may have either a high modulus of elasticity of between 7 and 25 MPa for high crown rigidity or a low modulus of elasticity of less that 6 MPa for reduced hysteresis energy loss.

A radial pneumatic tire comprises a pair of axially spaced apart beads. A radially reinforced carcass extends between and is secured at opposite end portions to the beads. The carcass includes a plurality of parallel extending reinforcing members. Each of the reinforcing members is disposed in a radial plane. A tread is located radially outward of a crown portion of the carcass. The tread is for engagement with a ground surface. A belt reinforcement package is disposed between the carcass and the tread. The carcass and belt package have particular profiles when the tire is properly inflated.
