A medical instrument includes a handle, a trocar in communication with the handle, and a cannula in communication with the trocar and the handle. The cannula is engaged (locked) with the handle when linearly displaced proximally towards the handle and, the cannula is disengaged (unlocked) from the handle when linearly displaced distally away from the handle. The cannula is linearly reciprocated, between the locked position and the unlocked position, along a linear travel path defined parallel to a longitudinal axis of the trocar such that the cannula is prohibited and permitted to articulate about the longitudinal axis of the trocar, and relative to the handle, respectively. Advantageously, the cannula is locked and unlocked from the trocar by without requiring an external force exerted generally transverse to trocar and/or cannula, thereby permitting a user to lock/unlock the cannula, relative to the trocar, with one hand.

A lavage handle for facilitating at least one of an irrigation function and a suctioning function at a target zone preferably includes a portable body, a power-operated fluid-displacing mechanism in communication with said body wherein said fluid-displacing mechanism has one of a first operating mode for inducing outward irrigation of fluid towards the target zone and a second operating mode for inducing inward suction of fluid from the target zone. An actuation mechanism is located at said body and operable communicated with said fluid-displacing mechanism such that said fluid-displacing mechanism is selectively operated in at least one of said first operating mode and said second operating mode. The actuation mechanism may include an irrigation-inducing mechanism and/or a suction-inducing mechanism.

A multi-functional handle manipulates a medical instrument and includes a body capable of being gripped by a hand of a user and further capable of being in communication with the medical instrument. In non-limiting exemplary embodiments, the handle may include one or more of a first trigger assembly, a second trigger assembly and a third trigger assembly. Non-limiting exemplary embodiments also include one or more of a primary digit-receiving member, a secondary digit-receiving member, and a tertiary digit-supporting member for facilitating ergonomic operation of the handle. The actuation arm actuates the medical instrument independently from movement of the primary digit-receiving member wherein the primary digit-receiving member can be selectively displaced between alternate orientations relative to a position of the body and relative to a position of the actuation arm, respectively, without affecting manipulation of the medical instrument.

Ergonomical trigger handle

A free weight organization system is described that prevents misplacement of the free weight plates on the weight rack. The system includes weight plates with recesses and keyed weight rack posts with corresponding projections. The placement of the recesses varies from one size of weight plate to another, preventing a weight plate of the wrong sized being placed on a rack post of the weight rack. The weight plates may also include a loading rest recess, with the keyed rack posts having a loading rest rod to assist in the correct placement of the plates on the rack.
