When an alarm panel needs to transmit alarm data, it seizes the PSTN and disconnects the premises-wiring. If in a call, the user is cut off immediately and it appears to the user that the connection to the PSTN has been lost. If trying to place a call, the user also perceives that the connection to the PSTN is lost. The present invention provides tonal signals to the user to indicate that the PSTN line is in use by the alarm panel and also notifies the user when the PSTN connection is available for use.

A device for redirecting alarm-messaging from an alarm control panel from its connection to the PSTN to a backup radio transceiver for transmission of the alarm signaling to a central alarm station via a radio network. The switch-over to the radio network occurs not only when the PSTN line is down, for whatever reason, but also occurs when the PSTN line is already occupied by an existing transmission by a premises' telephones, in order to allow the user to make a call over the PSTN during such an alarm condition. Moreover, if during the time the alarm control panel is transmitting its alarm messages over the PSTN, a premises' telephone goes off-hook, the device of the invention terminates the alarm panel's connection to the PSTN and automatically switches over the alarm panel to the radio backup system.

A method and apparatus for preventing harmful foreign voltage from being applied to a fixed wireless terminal. Upon the detection of a harmful voltage, the fixed wireless terminal is prevented from being connected to the tip-and-ring lines of a premises' land-line. The voltage is detected by a voltage-detector. The invention may also be used to disconnect the normally-closed connection of the fixed wireless terminal with the tip-and-ring lines of the premises' land-line upon the detection of a harmful voltage on the tip-and-ring lines.

A private branch exchange (PBX/PABX) is provided with a fixed wireless terminal, which allows both incoming and outgoing calls to be made on the private branch exchange. The fixed wireless terminal is coupled to the private branch exchange via an interface unit connected to one of the analog extension lines of the private branch exchange. A telephone extension serviced by the PBX/PABX places a call to a remote cellular telephone, or a remote cellular telephone user places a call to the telephone extension. When the PBX-user makes a call to a remote cellular telephone, one picks up a local PBX/PABX extension, and hears a dial tone, signifying that the PBX/PABX is ready to service his call. The caller then dials the directory number of the PBX/PABX extension which is provided for cellular calls. The PBX/PABX then automatically connects the caller to the cellular extension, which is the interfaced fixed wireless terminal. The caller then dials the directory number of the remote cellular telephone, and waits for connection. When a remote cellular telephone user calls the fixed wireless terminal interfaced to the PBX/PABX, he simply dials the cellular directory number of that fixed wireless terminal in the usual manner. When the fixed wireless terminal answers, the caller will hear the dial tone of the interfaced PBX/PABX, signifying that the PBX/PABX is ready to service his call. The remote caller then dials the extension on the PBX/PABX for the party to whom he wishes to speak, and is then connected.

Method and apparatus for interfacing a cellular fixed wireless terminal to the extension side of a PBX/PABX

A method of determining the end-of-dialing of a currently-dialed telephone number entered into a land-type POTS telephone coupled to a cellular transceiver via a cellular interface unit. The software of the invention will automatically generate a SEND signal upon the matching of a presently-dialed telephone number with a previously-dialed telephone number stored in the memory of the cellular interface unit that has been dialed on the telephone of the system a preset number of times, such as two. The software of the invention stores the list of previously-dialed telephone numbers by numerical order by time-ordering, or random storage of numbers, and continually updates the list for each new dialed telephone number. The software of the invention will allow one of the prior-art, end-of-dialing methods to determine the generation of a SEND signal for those presently-dialed telephone numbers that are not matched with a stored, previously-dialed telephone number.
