An apparatus has a Radio Frequency (RF) signal generator to produce RF signals phase shifted relative to one another in accordance with RF frequency waveform parameters. Amplifier chains process the RF signals to produce channels of amplified RF signals. Each amplifier chain has amplifiers and at least one amplifier has a tunable gate voltage synchronized with the RF signals.

An RF detection system includes a signal routing processor and a dynamically reconfigurable channelizer. The signal routing processor selects an operating mode of the RF detection system among a plurality of different operating mode. The dynamically reconfigurable channelizer invokes the selected operating mode in response to a routing control signal output by the signal routing processor. A transmitter. In some embodiments, the transmitter has an electrical input and an optical output. The transmitter may include a light source; an optical amplitude modulator having an optical input connected to the light source, a modulation input connected to the electrical input, and an output; and a first gated optical comparator, having a sampling clock input, an analog input connected to the output of the optical amplitude modulator, and an output. The first gated optical comparator may be configured to generate, for each cycle of an optical sampling clock signal received at the sampling clock input, a one-bit digital representation of an analog optical signal received at the analog input.

In some embodiments, the system includes a one-bit receiver, and the one-bit receiver includes a digital pseudo random noise generator, a one-bit digital to analog converter, a power combiner, a one-bit analog to digital converter, and a digital subtraction circuit. A system and method of digital beamforming for a monobit phased array radar system includes providing a plurality of monobit analog signals received by at least one antenna to at least one field programmable gate array (FPGA). A plurality of monobit SerDes transceivers within the FPGA convert the plurality of monobit analog signals into a plurality of multibit digital signals, each of the multibit digital signals being modified according to a digital signal conditioning value to calibrate, phase align, and synchronize the digital signals. A digital beam is formed by coherently combining the plurality of digital signals within the FPGA.

A digital receiver includes a digital synthesizer that generates a local oscillating (LO) signal at a selected frequency, and a signal mixer that receives an input signal and generates a mixed output signal in response to shifting a phase of the input signal based on the frequency of the LO signal. A multi-mode dynamic channelizer is selectively operable in a first mode and a second mode. The first mode generates a plurality of individual channels having a channel size defined by a bandwidth and a gain, and the second mode generates a parallelization of a selected channel. In response to operating in the second mode, the multi-mode dynamic channelizer adjusts at least one of the bandwidth and the gain of the selected channel based on the mixed output signal to change the channel size of the selected channel.

Multifunction channelizer/DDC architecture for a digital receiver/exciter

A system for beamforming, in a phased array antenna. Subtraction of a sinusoidal signal from a received signal, or from a signal to be transmitted, is used to shift the phase of the received signal, or from a signal to be transmitted. A separate sinusoidal signal may be generated for each antenna array element, making it possible to shift the phase on a per-element basis, to perform beamforming.

A method and system for data conversion includes an analog noise generator to generate a random, non-deterministic, analog noise signal. An adder adds the analog noise signal to an analog RF signal to produce a dithered analog signal. A first quantizer converts the analog noise signal to digital to produce a digital noise signal. A second quantizer converts the dithered analog signal to a digital equivalent signal. A digital dither adjustment module removes amplitude measurements of the digital noise signal from the digital equivalent signal to obtain a linearized digital representation of the analog RF signal.

Circuit and method for modulating filter coefficients of a frequency channelizer having a filter bank include: receiving a wide spectrum input signal; modulating the filter coefficients of the filter bank to sweep a center frequency of each channel of the frequency channelizer, using a modulation scheme; and inputting frequency offset compensation caused by the modulation, and output signals of the frequency channelizer to an application processing circuit to convert the output signals to their original center frequencies.

A delta-sigma modulator (DSM) includes: a first summation circuit coupled to an input signal for subtracting an error feedback signal from the input signal; a tunable signal transfer function coupled to the first summation circuit for setting a desired pole in a frequency response of the DSM; a second summation circuit coupled to the tunable signal transfer function for adding a noise transfer function to an output of the tunable signal transfer function; and a quantizer coupled to the second summation circuit for quantizing an output of the second summation circuit to generate an output of the DSM. The output of the DSM is used as feedback to the first summation circuit as the error feedback signal, and the tunable signal transfer function is dynamically tuned to allow selecting and tuning a center frequency and a bandwidth of the DSM.

Parameterizable bandpass delta-sigma modulator

A system and method of converting an analog input signal to a linearized digital representation of the analog input signal. A measure of the analog input signal is compared to a threshold associated with a maximum dynamic range of a quantizer. A maximum amplitude of a random, analog dither signal is dynamically varied for perturbing quantization of the analog input signal in response to the comparison. The dynamically varied dither signal and the analog input signal are combined to obtain a dithered input signal. The quantizer converts the dithered input signal into the linearized digital representation of the analog input signal.
