The tank is of the type including a container () for housing hydrogen, and metallic hydride placed inside the container. According to one aspect of the invention, it includes at least one solid body () formed of a compacted material including metallic hydride and a matrix. Application in particular for tanks for internal combustion engines or for fuel cells, in particular for motor vehicles, as well as for any stationary or mobile application using hydrogen.

The invention relates to a safe hydrogen-storing tank that is easy to manufacture and enables the quick kinetic absorption of hydrogen, which reduces the variations in volume and has a low cost in terms of material and energy. The invention has the aim of providing a tank for storing hydrogen, including a hydrogen inlet () and a hydrogen outlet () in fluid communication with at least one solid body (-) capable of the exothermal absorption and endothermal desorption of hydrogen, wherein said at least one solid body (-) is made of a compacted material containing light metal hydride and a heat-conducting matrix, and wherein said at least one solid body (-) is in heat-transfer relation with at least one heat recovery material () free from salt or molten-salt compounds and capable of absorbing the heat generated by the hydrogen absorption and of releasing said absorbed heat so as to provide heat for hydrogen desorption.

Adiabatic tank for metal hydride

The present invention relates to pulverulent materials suitable for storing hydrogen, and more particularly to a method of preparing such a material, in which: (A) a composite metallic material having a specific granular structure is prepared by co-melting the following mixtures: a first metallic mixture (m1), which is an alloy (a1) of body-centered cubic crystal structure, based on titanium, vanadium, chromium and/or manganese, or a mixture of these metals in the proportions of the alloy (a1); and a second mixture (m2), which is an alloy (a2), comprising 38 to 42% zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, hafnium, tantalum and/or tungsten and 56 to 60 mol % of nickel and/or copper, or else a mixture of these metals in the proportions of the alloy (a2), with a mass ratio (m2)/(m1+m2) ranging from 0.1 wt % to 20 wt %; and (B) the composite metallic material thus obtained is hydrogenated, whereby the composite material is fragmented (hydrogen decrepitation).

Pulverulent intermetallic materials for the reversible storage of hydrogen

The invention relates to a method for preparation of a material adapted to reversible storage of hydrogen, including steps consisting of providing a first powder of a magnesium-based material, hydrogenating the first powder to convert at least part of the first powder into metal hydrides, mixing the first hydrogenating powder with a second powder additive, the proportion by mass of the second powder in the mix obtained being between 1% and 20% by mass, wherein the additive is formed from an alloy with a centred cubic structure based on titatnium, vanadium and at least one other metal chosen from chromium or manganese, and grinding the mix of first and second powders.

Nanocrystalline composite for storage of hydrogen

The invention concerns a method for preparing a magnetic material by forging, characterised in that, in a first embodiment, it comprises the following steps; placing in a sheath an alloy based on at least one rare earth, at least one transition metal and at least one other element selected among boron and carbon; bringing the whole alloy to a temperature not less than 500&deg; C.; forging the whole at a deformation speed of the material not less than 8 s . After forging, it is possible to subject the resulting product to at least one annealing and hydridation then dehydridation, in another embodiment, it consists in starting with an alloy based on at least one rare earth and one transition metal and proceeding as in the first embodiment. After forging and, optionally, annealing, hydridation and dehydridation treatments, the resulting material is subjected to nitriding. The invention also concerns a magnetic material in power form, characterised in that has a coercivity not less than 9 kOe and retentivity not less than 9 kG.

Method for preparing a magnetic material by forging and magnetic material in powder form

There is disclosed a process for optimizing the magnetic properties of a multiphase product of composition rare earth/iron/boron endowed with permanent magnet properties at ambient temperature. This composition serves as a precursor, which is first subjected to a decrepitation treatment by hydrogenation under low pressure at low temperature to obtain an intermediate hydride in pulverulent form. The pulverulent intermediate hydride is subsequently subjected to a first heat treatment under vacuum for partial dehydrogenation at a temperature below its element separation temperature. The non-separated product thereby obtained is subjected to a second heat post-treatment under an initial primary vacuum and extensively dehydrogenated until the primary vacuum is reestablished at a temperature close to 600.degree. C. The precursor can be an isotropic material obtained by fast quenching, such as wheel quenching or hot welding with a forging ratio of at least 10. According to another aspect of the invention the dehydrogenated product obtained is subjected to a third heat post-treatment under a neutral atmosphere or under vacuum, at a temperature of between 450.degree. and 1000.degree. C. The two post-treatments are optionally separated by a thermal plateau.

Preparation from Nd.sub.2 Fe.sub.14 B by hydrogenation (ambient temperature; pH.sub.2 &gt;20 bar), which can be reversed to give powdered Nd.sub.2 Fe.sub.14 B. Remarkable magnetic properties.
