An inspection system that is effective to collect images of a part under inspection. This inspection system includes (a) a three axis linear motion stage; (b) a rotary fourth axis stage configured to hold and rotate an object to be inspected. This rotary fourth axis stage is mounted on the three axis linear stage; (c) a fifth axis camera and optical system mounted to one of the axes of the three axis linear motion stage. This fifth axis camera has an optical axis substantially parallel to the axis of linear motion; (d) a 45 degree mirror configured to bend the optical axis of the fifth axis camera by 90&#xb0; to point towards the object; and (e) a motor configured to rotate the mirror over a range of angles to obtain a fifth axis of viewing orientation.

Five axis optical inspection system

A method for the rapid optical inspection of stents is described wherein a stent is mounted on a mandrel with optical properties suitable for machine vision inspection of the stent is conveyed to a first inspection station containing a camera and illumination light source. A driving member securely contacts the mandrel and the stent is rotated in view of the inspection camera. The stent is then transferred to a second location for further operations. A unique identification tag is associated with each mandrel and tracks the location of the stent through the inspection process.

Automated stent inspection system

An optical system is effective to illuminate and scan an interior wall of an object having an interior bore, such as a stent. The system includes a light source, an object support having a light conducting portion, an image taking lens, and a line scan camera. The interior bore and the light conducting portion of the object support are in axial alignment with a center optical axis of the image taking lens. A drive mechanism engages the object without impacting the axial alignment. Various aspect of this optical system include a rotating wheel or transparent plate as the drive mechanism. The object support may be an opaque rod having a light conducting portion or a transparent rod. Electronics associated with this optical system include a rotary encoder engaging the drive system to drive an electric circuit capable of triggering the line scan camera in response to rotation of the object, thereby building a line by line image of the interior bore and the line scan camera connected to a computer-based imaging system effective to identify cosmetic and functional manufacturing defects.

System and method to illuminate and image the inside diameter of a stent

A combination of a racecourse and a plurality of racing vehicles where the racecourse has a predefined path defined by at least one gate. This gate further includes a unique identifier. Each of the plurality of racing vehicles has a sensor capable of detecting the unique identifier and the sensor is further coupled to a logic circuit and to a transmitter. A scoreboard has receiver to receive information from the transmitter and display that information, such as lap speed and ranking, according to a desired format. Alternatively, the unique identifier is mounted to the racing vehicle and the sensor to the gate.

Racecourse lap counter and racecourse for radio controlled vehicles

A method for measuring the thickness of a tube wall comprising mounting a cut tube onto a rod is disclosed. At least two contact tips are moved into contact with the tube. The tips are imaged with an optical system when the tips are in contact with the cut tube. The optical image is converted into a measurement.

Precision measurement of tube wall thickness

A system for measuring the spatial dimensions of a three-dimensional object employs a lens and at least two detectors. The combination of which defines two or more object planes. The combination of the lens and the detectors define an optical axis that is normal to the object planes and passes through a focal point of the lens. At least a first and a second photodetector are optically aligned with the object through the lens. The first and second photodetectors or array of detectors are further parallel with the surface but have differing elevations relative to that surface. In addition, the first and second photodetectors are capable of motion relative to said object. Electrical output from the first and from the second photodetectors is provided to a processor that determines a distance of the object from the lens and thereby a height of the object. This system is particularly suited for measuring the spatial dimensions of solder balls mounted to a surface of a ball grid array (BGA) electronic package.

Three dimensional scanning camera

An automatic system for illuminating, inspecting and measuring stents and other precision cut tubes and components made of a: a linear array electronic camera with a lens, a light source to provide necessary illumination to create an image on said linear array camera, mandrel onto which the tube is mounted during inspection, a rotary stage for rotating the mandrel, and a computer based electronic imaging system that creates a line-by-line image of stent as it rotates under said camera.

Repetitive inspection system with intelligent tools

An optical imaging apparatus comprising a linear array-based camera, using a positional encoding technique highly insensitive to transient and steady state mechanical tolerances in the mechanical scanning system, with the capacity to capture a three dimensional image of a part with enough precision to allow accurate measurements of the part's features to be made.

High precision three dimensional mapping camera

An illumination device for attachment to an optical imaging apparatus, such as a microscope, that provides bright, even illumination throughout the part under observation. The illuminating device has a diffuse light source, an optical element to receive part of the light from the light source and reflecting part toward the object under observation, and reflecting elements to collect and redirect stray light rays toward said object. The reflecting elements can be angled parallel to the beamsplitter and transverse with the part.

Microscope illuminator for cylindrical objects

An optical imaging apparatus having focusing optics, a linear array of detectors positioned in a focal plane outputting an image of a portion of an object which is placed on a platform having a moveable mounting responsive to horizontal and vertical mechanical drive forces thereby moving the platform to known horizontal and vertical positions while images of the object are captured by the linear array and output to a computer which compiles the sectional images and generates a composite image of the object allowing measurements to be taken.

The optical touch probe has a first target at the distal end thereof on the contact element in a standard probe. The probe is mounted to a video camera of an optical coordinate measuring machine to image the target on the camera. Movement and position of the target in the X and Y coordinates is indicated by the machine's computer image processing system. A second target is mounted to the proximal end of the probe and indicates movement and position in the Z coordinate. The second target may obscure a photodetector, but preferably is parfocused on the camera by light beam parallel to the X,Y plane. Preferably there are two second targets illuminated by orthogonal beams parallel to the X,Y plane. Rotation around the Z axis then may be calculated by the computer when star probes are used. Auto changing racks are also disclosed for holding multiple probes, a probe holder, and lenses for selective mounting on the camera.
