System and method for temperature-calibration of a crystal oscillator (XO) in a mobile device. A temperature-calibration status of the XO is determined and a trigger condition related to temperature-calibration of the XO is detected. If the temperature-calibration status of the XO is not fully temperature-calibrated or if the XO has not been previously temperature-calibrated, a temperature-calibration session is initiated by an XO manager based on the condition, wherein a receiver is configured to receive signals and temperature-calibration of the XO is performed in a background mode based on the received signals. The condition based triggering ensures that the XO is temperature-calibrated prior to launch of any position based or global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) based applications on the mobile device. The trigger condition can include first use or power-on, charging, presence in an outdoor environment, variation in operating temperature, pre-specified time, and/or user input pertaining to the mobile device.

A wireless communication system includes: a first sub-system including a first radio and a second radio, each including a transceiver or a receiver; and a second sub-system coupled to the first sub-system and including: a first antenna configured to convey signals; a first tuner coupled to the first antenna; and a controller coupled to the first tuner, the controller being configured to cause the first tuner to adjust a characteristic of the first tuner; where the controller and/or the first tuner is configured to provide, to the first sub-system, an indication of an effect on operational performance of a portion of the second sub-system coupled to the second radio based on operation of the first tuner or the first antenna, or a combination thereof; where the first sub-system is configured to modify operation of the second radio based on the indication of the effect on operational performance.

Radio control based on operational performance feedback

A user equipment (UE) may communicate using different radio access technologies on adjacent frequency bands. The UE may determine that the UE is not receiving wireless signals for a second radio access technology that utilizes a second frequency band adjacent to a first frequency band for a first radio access technology. The UE may place a transmitter of the UE in a filter bypass mode in which a transmit signal bypasses a transmit filter for the first radio access technology in response to determining that the wireless signals for the second radio access technology are not received. The UE may scan, using a receiver for the second radio access technology, while in the filter bypass mode, the second frequency band for a signal for the second radio access technology between scheduled transmissions for the first radio access technology.

An antenna system includes: a radiating element; a feed coupled to the radiating element at a first point on the radiating element and configured to convey energy to the radiating element; and a radiation-adjustment device coupled to the radiating element at a second point, configured to alter a radiation characteristic of the radiating element, and including: coarse-adjustment elements; an integrated-circuit chip including: switches, each coupled to a respective one of the coarse-adjustment elements where the coarse-adjustment elements are disposed external to the integrated-circuit chip; and a fine-adjustment circuit; the antenna system further including a controller communicatively coupled to the switches and to the fine-adjustment circuit, the controller configured to alter the radiation characteristic of the radiating element by selectively causing one or more of the switches to couple one or more of the coarse-adjustment elements to the radiating element, and by adjusting a value of the fine-adjustment circuit.

Background crystal oscillator calibration

An apparatus includes a temperature measuring device within a thermally conductive package. A crystal within the package is thermally coupled to the temperature measuring device and subjected to a same temperature as the temperature measuring device. A controller external to the package is configured to receive a signal from the crystal and a temperature measurement from the temperature measuring device. The controller is configured to estimate a frequency error of the crystal based on the temperature measurement and to provide a frequency error estimate to an external system.

Wireless chipset with a non-temperature compensated crystal reference

A method of wireless communication is disclosed, in which a wearable device may determine whether a network operator provides support for bursty communication, and communicate directly through the network operator in the bursty communication in response to the determining the network operator provides the support for bursty communication. The support for bursty communication by the network operator may be either integrated into a telephony application server (TAS) or a wearable application server (WAS) that is a separate entity from the TAS and deployed between the TAS and the wearable device. The bursty communication by the wearable device may include receiving packets in the bursty communication, buffering the received packets, and transmitting or playing out the bursty communication in entirety after all of the packets in the bursty communication have been received. Apparatus corresponding to such method is also disclosed.

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus for antenna switching for simultaneous communication. In one embodiment, a wireless communication apparatus is provided. The wireless communication apparatus includes a plurality of antennas including a first antenna and a second antenna. The wireless communication apparatus further includes a plurality of transmit circuits including a first transmit circuit. The wireless communication apparatus further includes a controller configured to selectively switch the first transmit circuit from transmitting wireless communications via the first antenna to transmit wireless communications via the second antenna based on one or more uplink performance characteristics of at least one of the first antenna and the second antenna. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Methods and systems for antenna switching based on uplink metrics

Systems and methods for antenna selection in a wireless terminal with two radios are provided. Signals received using first and second antennas are demodulated by first and second modems according to first and second protocols. A receive path between the second antenna and the second modem can be controlled to receive signals according to the first protocol. A performance measure of demodulating, according to the first protocol, a signal received using the second antenna is determined. The performance measure may be determined using a mirror module in the second modem or using a search module in the first modem. The wireless terminal switches antennas so that the first modem demodulates a signal received using the second antenna, if the performance measure for using the second antenna is such that the switch would improve performance of the first modem.
