An optical fiber testing device () being plugged into a port at which optical signals including communication and test signals within different wavelength bands being received, comprises an optical connector () including a plug body surrounding a ferrule holding an optical fiber () and a reflector component () carried with the optical connector (). The reflector component () is optically coupled to the rear of the optical fiber and reflects the test signal. A method for testing an optical fiber, comprises removably securing a reusable ruggedized optical fiber testing device to a ruggedized port of an optical fiber terminal to optically couple to an optical fiber under test, transmitting a test signal over the optical fiber under test, and using the reflector component to return the test signal over the optical fiber under test when receiving the test signal.

Optical fiber testing device and method

A fiber management tray () is disclosed. The fiber management tray () can have a body () including a bottom wall () with side walls () extending outwardly from the bottom wall (). The fiber management tray () can include a termination region () that has a first side () and a second side (). The termination region () includes a termination panel () that holds connectors (). The fiber management tray () can include a hinge area () for mounting said tray () to a tray tower () and a storage basket () located between the termination region () and the hinge area (). The storage basket () can include a first pocket () that communicates with the second side () of the termination region () and an opposite second pocket () that communicates with the first side () of the termination region (). The present disclosure relates to a fiber optic connector assembly having a fiber optic connector including a main connector body and a rear insert secured within a rear cable termination end of the main connector body. The fiber optic connector assembly has a fiber optic cable that includes an optical fiber, a strength layer and an outer jacket. The optical fiber has a ferrule-less end portion accessible at a front mating end of the main connector body. A first shape recoverable sleeve secures the optical fiber to a substrate anchored to the rear insert. An axial gap exists between the forward end of the outer jacket and the rearward end of the rear insert. A second shape recoverable sleeve secures the outer jacket to the rear insert. An adhesive material at least partially fills the axial gap.

Cable termination assembly and method for connectors

A first reflector () is configured to provide a first reflected optical signal. The sensor () is connected to the first reflector and has a first position and a second position, the second position configured to attenuate the first reflected optical signal more than the first position. The sensor is configured to move between the first and second positions in response to a monitored parameter ().

An optical fiber network test device comprising an actuator that is manually operable, without manual handling of optical fibers, firstly to direct light from a light path of the optical network so that test equipment associated with the network can be operated to test the quality of the said light path, and secondly to return the light path to its previous state after completion of the test.

Optical fibre test device

Devices and methods for optical measurements in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint networks, e.g. like PON networks with splitters are described in which reflected power from some known reflections at the end of the lines is used to determine the attenuation and stability of the attenuation of each line. Also a reference reflection is used at the beginning of the network so that an absolute loss measurement between the points of reflection and the reference reflection can be made. In a further aspect wavelength selective stable reflections and reflectors are used, to provide reflections in a wavelength range that does not interfere with normal operation.

An optical fiber transmission distribution assembly, wherein the assembly comprises at least a first splitter having a first split ratio of 1:x (where x is an integer) connected to optical drop cables leading to subscribers, and at least a second splitter having a second split ratio of 1:y (where y is an integer and is different from x), and transfer means whereby an optical drop cable connected to the first splitter can be transferred to receive split optical signals from the second splitter, thereby enabling the signal in the transferred drop cable to be further split by addition of a third splitter at a ratio of 1:p (where p is an integer), to provide p subscriber connection points each having a 1:p*y split ratio at the subscriber end of the transferred drop cable.

Optical fibre networks

A method is disclosed for testing optical fiber connection quality of an optical drop fiber between a telecommunications system and a subscriber connection box in a multi-dwelling unit or other subscriber premises before connection to other subscriber equipment. An end of the optical fiber to be tested is placed in a fiber-holding device, which holds the fiber end in alignment with a suitable reflective body. An optical signal is provided from the system direction which is reflected by the reflective body back towards the system. The reflected signal is detected by a suitable instrument, preferably an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), to confirm acceptable signaling quality of the optical path between the system and the fiber end.

Optical cable testing

A method of splicing optical fibers includes affixing a first fiber to a first keying element having a particular radial orientation, inserting the keying element in a support which receives the keying element only in a specific radial orientation, cleaving the fiber affixed to the inserted keying element at a predetermined angle (&#x3b1;) relative to the support to form an angled fiber end face, removing the keying element from the support, inserting the keying element into a splicing body which receives the keying element only in a specific radial orientation such that the angled fiber end face has a predictable radial orientation with respect to the splice body, and repeating the above operations for a second fiber and a second keying element, whereby the first angled fiber end face and the second angled fiber end face abut in a substantially parallel orientation.

Method and apparatus for splicing optical fibres

A support for a splice in an elongate element such as an optical fiber in which application of the support involves attainment of an elevated temperature, in which there are provided temperature indicator means for providing a visual indication of attainment of a selected temperature or temperature range whereby to assist in determining effective completion of a step in the application process.
