A method in an aircraft for energy reduction is disclosed. The method includes: determining a starting point location, altitude and airspeed for a stable approach for landing at a diversion airport; and determining a vertical strategy for achieving the starting point altitude and airspeed by identifying a region of opportunity for adjusting the speed and altitude and identifying a plurality of energy reduction strategies for achieving the starting point altitude and airspeed while in the region of opportunity based on a speed mode during the stable approach. The method further comprises causing a graphic display to be displayed that lists for selection each of the plurality of identified strategies, detailed maneuver information for strategy implementation, and costs for implementing each identified strategy; and causing to be displayed, responsive to flight crew selection, a lateral view and vertical view of a proposed trajectory based on a selected identified strategy.

System and methods enabling aircraft energy dissipation for rapid decision making

Disclosed are methods, systems, and a non-transitory computer-readable medium for regenerating at least a portion of a flight plan of a vehicle. The method may include generating an adjustment to a speed, an altitude, and/or a heading for one or more locations along a flight path within at least one of a predetermined distance of the vehicle and a predetermined window of time, based on received speed data, altitude data, and flight path data, including a subset of points along each boom footprint included in the flight path data, and a permissible threshold boom value for each of the one or more locations. The method may also include regenerating a portion of a flight plan corresponding to the one or more locations, based on the generated adjustment to the speed, altitude, and/or heading for the one or more locations.

Methods and systems for regenerating at least a portion of a flight plan based on location-specific data

Methods and systems are provided for engaging a vertical navigational descent (VNAV/DES) mode of a flight management system (FMS) for an aircraft. The method comprises retrieving a preset vertical navigation (VNAV) profile for a descent path of the aircraft that is stored in the FMS. The current flight path angle (FPA) and vertical speed (VS) of the aircraft is determined and intercept parameters are calculated to intercept the preset VNAV profile with the VNAV/DES mode of the FMS. The intercept parameters are calculated based on the current FPA and VS and displayed to an aircrew member of the aircraft on a visual display device. The aircrew member is allowed to accept the intercept parameters with the VNAV/DES mode of the FMS.

Method and system for engaging a vertical navigation descent mode for an aircraft

Systems and methods may be used for monitoring and identifying failure in flight management systems. For example, a method may include: calculating, using a first flight management system, a first value of a guidance command for controlling an aircraft for an RNP AP procedure; receiving a second value of the guidance command from a second flight management system; comparing the first value with the second value to determine whether the first value matches the second value; upon determining that the first value does not match the second value, using a flight management system monitor to determine, from the first flight management system and the second flight management system, a flight management system that has computed a correct value of the guidance command; and generating a message indicating that the determined flight management system is to be used to guide the aircraft.

Systems and methods for monitoring and identifying failure in dual flight management systems

Disclosed are methods, systems, and a non-transitory computer-readable medium for modifying a flight plan of a vehicle. The method may include identifying a maneuver of a flight path that will generate a focus boom, based on received flight path data and permissible threshold boom values for locations along a boom footprint of the maneuver, and generating an adjustment to at least one of a speed, an altitude, an attitude, a location, and a turn radius of the maneuver based on the received data and the permissible threshold boom values. In addition, the method may include updating the flight plan based on the generated adjustment to the at least one of the speed, the altitude, the attitude, the location, and the turn radius of the at least one maneuver.

Methods and systems for modifying a flight plan based on focus boom detection

Methods and systems are provided for assisting operation of a vehicle deviating from a desired manner of operation, such as an aircraft deviating from a planned trajectory. One method involves identifying a current aircraft altitude, identifying a current aircraft configuration, determining a recommended flight path from the current aircraft altitude for satisfying an upcoming constraint associated with a reference descent strategy based at least in part on the current aircraft configuration in response to a deviation between the current aircraft altitude a target altitude according to the reference descent strategy, and providing an output influenced by the recommended flight path. The recommended flight path includes a recommended vertical profile and a recommended speed profile, and the recommended flight path is configured to vary at least one of a kinetic energy or a potential energy of the aircraft along the recommended flight path en route to the upcoming constraint.

Variable energy management methods and systems

Methods and systems are provided for guiding or otherwise assisting energy management of an aircraft radar vectoring en route to a runway. A method involves determining a predicted lateral trajectory for the radar vectoring in accordance with interception criteria, wherein the lateral trajectory comprises a sequence of segments for satisfying the interception criteria from a current location of the aircraft and each navigational segment of the sequence is associated with an anticipated aircraft heading assignment. The method determines a reference vertical trajectory corresponding to the lateral trajectory, determines a target value for an energy state parameter of the aircraft at the current location on the lateral trajectory using the reference vertical trajectory, and provides indication of a recommended action to reduce a difference between a current value for the energy state parameter and the target value.

A system includes an aircraft avionics system and a portable computing device. The aircraft avionics system is configured to run one or more embedded avionics applications. The portable computing device is in operable communication with the aircraft avionics system and is configured to run one or more portable device applications. Each portable device application has resident therein a software development kit having libraries and utilities that enables the portable device application to: establish a secure connection with the aircraft avionics system, establish and maintain a required protocol with the embedded avionics application, and communicate with the embedded avionics application as specified by an application programming interface definition.

Methods and systems are disclosed for depicting an energy state of a vehicle. One method comprises receiving, by a flight management computer, a plurality of vehicle parameters associated with the vehicle and determining a flight plan associated with the vehicle. Then, the flight management computer identifies a point of interest in the flight plan and determines one or more trajectories associated with the flight plan. Based on the one or more trajectories, an actual energy height and a desired energy height at the point of interest are determined and displayed to a vehicle operator.

The database may also the access to the information about the navigational aids to be prioritized based on proximity to the current position of the aircraft.
