Systems and methods of controlling a docking station comprise establishing, by the wireless access point, a USB connection tunnelled over a local area wireless network connection with the mobile device, receiving, by the wireless access point over the USB connection, a request for an Internet Protocol (IP) or a Media Access Control (MAC) network address of the display controller, transmitting, by the wireless access point in response to the request, the IP or the MAC network address of the display controller to the mobile device over the USB connection, and receiving, by the wireless access point, the at least video data addressed to the IP or the MAC network address of the display controller and switching the at least video data addressed to the IP or the MAC network address of the display controller directly to the display controller without passing via the USB controller.

High-performance wireless side channel

A method of configuring a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection between a first and second devices, the USB connection comprising a plurality of data channels, each having a pair of signal links, each signal link including a port at either end of the connection, and a signal wire formed of one or more physical wires extending between corresponding ports. Each of the signal links are configured with a first direction for transmission of data. The first direction is determined based on an initial required data transmission capacity in each direction between the first and second devices. Thereafter, depending on required capacity in the different directions, a selection is made which of the signal links should change their direction of transmission from the first direction to a second direction and a redirection signal is sent to each of the selected signal links to cause the change in direction of transmission.

USB connections

A method of controlling a docking station () having a wireless access point () having a network address for communicating with a mobile device () over a local area wireless network connection, a display controller () having a network address for processing video data for output to a display device () over a display-specific connection, and a USB controller () for processing USB data signals for output to one or more peripheral devices () over a USB connection. The method involves establishing a local area wireless network connection with the mobile device () and establishing a USB connection tunnelled over the local area wireless network connection with the mobile device (). The access point () transmits the network address of the display controller () to the mobile device () over the USB connection in response to a request for the network address of the display controller () from the mobile device (), thereby allowing the mobile device () to transmit at least video data over the local area wireless network connection addressed to the display controller () using the network address of the display controller () without using the USB connection.

A method of controlling a wireless docking station, which has one or more peripheral devices connected thereto, which are controllable from a mobile device when the mobile device is docked with the wireless docking station. The method involves receiving (S) a sensing signal indicating that a user is proximate the peripheral device(s) and detecting (S) that a mobile device is within a predetermined range of the wireless docking station. An identification of the mobile device is determined and the user is requested (S) to confirm that the user wants to dock the mobile device having the identification with the wireless docking station. When a confirmation signal (S) is received, an authentication of the mobile device having the identification is permitted to be performed whereby the mobile device having the identification is docked (S) with the wireless docking station if the authentication is successful.

Wireless docking

An apparatus for co-ordinating display data sent to a display device includes two or more panels or sub-displays together forming a single display screen for displaying at least one complete image. Each display panel has a display input for receiving display data of part of the complete image from a corresponding display output of a display control device. The display control device receives, from a host device, packets of display data destined for one of the display panels. The display control device directs the packets to one or more processors in the display control device for processing and storing the display data in a respective buffer according to which respective display panel the display data is destined for. The processed display data is output from the buffers at a synchronized time to the display output corresponding to the respective display panel for which the display data is destined.

Method and apparatus for controlling a display comprising two or more panels

Data, particularly display data, is sent to a particular peripheral device, particularly a display device) from a computer device, such as a mobile device. The method involves determining an identifier of each peripheral device and receiving () a user identification identifying a particular peripheral device. The user identification is then associated () with the identifier of the particular peripheral device, and data is sent to the particular peripheral device based on the identifier associated with the user identification. The user identification comprises a user gesture which is captured as an input image, which is processed to determine which particular peripheral device the user gesture is gesturing towards and associating the user gesture with the identifier of the particular peripheral device. Alternatively the user identification may be directly input by a user on a display showing either recognised elements that have been associated with identifiers of the peripheral devices, or a listing of available peripheral devices.
