A system and method are disclosed for verifying spare capacity in a communications network comprising a database containing the configuration of switching elements within the network and a plurality of instructions resident on a memory device for operating a control computer, wherein the plurality of instructions includes a code segment for generating alarms on the switching elements, a code segment for receiving the alarms from the switching elements, and a code segment for updating the database to reflect the spare capacity based upon the alarms.

System and method for verification of remote spares in a communications network when a network outage occurs

A system and method for dynamically restoring communications within a network following an outage comprising a database containing the current configuration of switching elements within the network and a plurality of instructions resident on a memory device for operating a control computer wherein the plurality of instructions includes a code segment for receiving alarms from the switching elements identifying an outage, a code segment for selecting restoration switching elements based upon the configuration of the switching elements in the database, and a code segment for implementing a restoration route utilizing the restoration switching elements to restore communications within the network are disclosed.

System and method for dynamically restoring communications within a network

A generic interface is provided for interfacing multiple client application programs with multiple network devices. The client application programs may differ from each other and may include application programs for performing a network restoration, network maintenance, and network administration. The network devices may be of different device types. The interface converts communications between the client application programs and the network devices so that the communications are compatible with the requirements of the destination. The interface may include added functionality, such as an automatic auditing mechanism and a data link manager mechanism.

Interface for interfacing client programs with network devices in a telecommunications network

A graphical user interface (GUI) system is provided for managing and controlling multiple network devices and client applications in a telecommunications network. The GUI system provides an integrated environment in which a user sends instructions and data to the network devices and client applications and receives back data related to status of the network devices and client applications. The integrated environment allows the user to access many window screens which are all tied into one main window. The many window screens provide options for commands and views of data related to various areas of management and control of the telecommunications network. The one main window provides a point of reference so that the user does not have to log onto various systems numerous times or use different terminals dependent upon which command or data the user desires to send or receive. Training and operational time and costs are thus reduced from prior art systems.

Interface system for integrated monitoring and management of network

A real-time device data management (RTNDD) system for managing access to data describing devices in a telecommunications network. The RTNDD system maintains a partition data structure for each device. The partition data structure has a header section and a port data section. The header section contains data elements describing the device (e.g., number of ports and device type). The port data section has a port data structure for each port of the device that contains data elements describing the port (e.g., current cross-connect and actual port address for device). The RTNDD system also provides a standard interface through which external systems access the device data. The standard interface has functions for reading and writing to the partition data structures. Each read function reads multiple data elements of a header section or a port data structure at a time, and each write function writes a single data element of a device at a time. The standard interface is device independent such that an external system can use the standard interface to access device data for any type of device whose data is stored in a partition data structure.
