A bone augment for repairing a bone defect and associated method. The bone augment includes a porous body and a reinforcement member. The porous body defines a plurality of pores and is configured to be intraoperatively shaped to correspond to the bone defect. The reinforcement member is mounted on an exterior surface of the porous body and is configured to be intraoperatively shaped to correspond to the bone defect.

Method and apparatus for augumenting bone defects

A method of forming an orthopedic implant, the method comprising the steps of providing a first implant component and a second implant component, the first implant component having a stem and a second implant component including a head defining a female taper sized to receive the stem; coupling the stem to the female taper of the head; forming a modular injunction between the stem and head; applying a seal to the modular injunction to limit bodily fluid from contacting the modular injunction; and forming the orthopedic implant.

A seal for preventing a bodily fluid from penetrating an orthopedic implant comprising a tapered section adapted to conformingly mate to a stem of a first implant component, and a collar section extending from and circumferentially surrounding a portion of the tapered section, the collar section adapted to mate to a base of a second implant component such that the tapered section and collar section define an opening therethrough configured to receive the first implant component.

A bone augment for repairing a bone defect. The bone augment includes a porous body and a metallic liner. The porous body defines a bore and is configured to be intraoperatively shaped to correspond to the bone defect. The metallic liner is injection molded within the bore such that portions of the liner interlock with pores of the porous body. The metallic liner is operable to mount an implant to the bone augment.

Method and apparatus for augmenting bone defects

This invention relates to an apparatus and method for plugging holes in an acetabular shell component. The apparatus includes an acetabular shell component having an inner concave surface and an outer convex surface with at least a first selectively pluggable hole passing therethrough. The first selectively pluggable hole being defined by at least a cylindrical threaded sidewall. The apparatus further includes a plug having a tapered threaded sidewall. The cylindrical threaded sidewall of the first selectively pluggable hole threadably receives the tapered threaded sidewall of the plug to create an interference fit. This interference fit substantially seals the first selectively pluggable hole to minimize migration of debris through the first selectively pluggable hole. The apparatus further includes a second selectively pluggable hole and a removal instrument which is operable to removably engage a second plug without scratching the inner concave surface of the acetabular shell component during the removal of the second plug.

Apparatus and method for plugging holes in an acetabular shell component

A two piece construction disposable carpal tunnel ligament tome is provided. In a preferred embodiment the tome has a handle, stem, cutting head with two forward extending and parallel spaced upper and lower forks. The handle, stem, cutting head and forks are injection molded as one plastic piece. Mounted in the cutting head is a blade fabricated from flat stock metal with a forward facing cutting edge concealed by the forks. Extending forward from the blade are upper and lower fork reinforcement members. The fork reinforcements are encapsulated by the molded upper and lower forks. The inventive carpal tunnel ligament tome provides very rigid forks, yet does not require the extensive machining required by tomes with metal forks. Since the blade and fork reinforcement can be fabricated from a flat stock material, fabrication costs can be lowered with extremely high performance of the tome being maintained.

Carpal tunnel tome

A glenoid component for use in shoulder arthroplasty which is adapted to be implanted into a scapula and engaged by a head of a humeral component. The glenoid component includes a body having a first articulating surface and second textured medial surface opposite to the first articulating surface. The first articulating surface is adapted to be engaged by the head of the humeral component and the second textured medial surface is adapted to be secured to the scapula. A plurality of circular base members extends from the second textured medial surface and provides a circular base pad having a first diameter. A plurality of cylindrical pegs each have a first end adapted to engage a cavity formed in the scapula and a second end extending from one of the circular base members. Each of the cylindrical pegs is partially defined by a sidewall having a second diameter such that the first diameter of the cylindrical base pads is larger than the second diameter of the cylindrical pegs to increase peg shear strength.

Apparatus and method for shoulder arthroplasty

A surgical reamer is used in conjunction with a femoral neck cutting guide to enlarge the intramedullary canal of a resected host femur to expose hard cortical bone. The reamer has a longitudinally fluted cutting head that is flexible and able to bend relative to its longitudinal axis whereby to conform to axial or curved cortical bone surfaces to be engaged by like mating surfaces of a hip prosthesis to be implanted therein. In this regard, the cutting head includes a helical band spiralling between the ends of the cutting head.
