A wireless communication system having a terminal unit operates in a reduced noise state during receipt of a wireless transmission from a control unit. The terminal unit includes terminal circuitry, a radio and noise management circuitry. The noise management circuitry partially or fully disables operation of the terminal circuitry during a receipt by the radio. Noise management circuitry may disable a terminal processor, disable interrupts, buffer interrupts and otherwise modify operation of the terminal circuitry to reduce generated radio noise that would otherwise interfere with receipt of data by the radio. The wireless communication system includes noise management circuitry located in a control unit that operates in conjunction with noise management circuitry in a first terminal unit and a second terminal unit to schedule transmissions from the control unit. These scheduled transmissions allow the terminal units to perform required processing functions outside of the reduced noise period.

Wireless communications system having reduced noise mode operation capability

In an exemplary embodiment, a multi-rate data conversion circuit receives digital data at varying data rates, receives a data rate input corresponding to the digital data and converts the digital data to a converted output based upon the data rate input. A direct digital synthesis circuit receives the converted output and synthesizes a modulated output signal based upon the converted output. A multi-rate converter receives the digital data, the data rate input and a clock signal and converts the digital data to converted digital data. A multi-rate digital data filter receives the converted digital data and produces a filtered digital output. An output scaler receives the filtered digital output and produces a scaled and filtered digital output. Finally, an adder combines the scaled and filtered digital output with a center frequency input and produces the converted output.

Multiple date rate filtered modulation system for digital data

A multi-rate data modulation circuit includes a multi-rate data conversion circuit and a modulator such as a direct digital synthesis circuit. The multi-rate data conversion circuit receives digital data at varying data rates, receives a data rate input corresponding to the digital data and converts the digital data to a converted output based upon the data rate input. The direct digital synthesis circuit receives the converted output and synthesizes a modulated output signal based upon the converted output. The multi-rate data conversion circuit may include a multi-rate converter, a multi-rate digital data filter, an output scaler and an adder. The multi-rate converter receives the digital data, the data rate input and a clock signal and converts the digital data to converted digital data. The multi-rate digital data filter receives the converted digital data and produces a filtered digital output. The output scaler receives the filtered digital output and produces a scaled and filtered digital output. Finally, the adder combines the scaled and filtered digital output with a center frequency input and produces the converted output. The multi-rate digital data filter may include a look-up table that produces filter parameters based upon the converted digital data and that operates at multiple data rates. The multi-rate digital data filter may include a digital data filter look-up table, a data rate decode circuit and a plurality of multiplexors. In such case, the data rate decode circuit receives the data rate input and produces control signals therefrom. Each of the plurality of multiplexors receives a portion of the converted digital data and control signals from the data rate decode circuit such that the multiplexors selectively provide the converted digital data to the digital data filter look-up table to produce the filtered digital output.

Multiple data rate filtered modulation system for digital data

A hand-held data input system having an input stylus and a data receiving pad is disclosed. The data input system can include a recessed stylus holder. The recessed stylus holder can receive the input stylus such that it does not protrude from the system's housing. The data input system can alternatively include a grip facilitator. The grip facilitator can be located proximate the data receiving pad to make contact with a finger of a hand gripping a side of the hand-held unit. Other embodiments include features such as an active stylus, a radio frequency receiver, input keys, handwriting recognition capability, an indicia reader and a handstrap.

The active area of the display screen is covered by a touch sensitive overlay screen which is configured in one mode of operation of the data terminal into an alphabetical keyboard. The orientation of the display is switchable between orientations in which the line direction of the displayed data extends across or longitudinally of the data terminal. The keys of the numerical keyboard are identified by indicia disposed on a template. The orientation of the template may be sensed to switch the orientation of the displayed data and touch sensitive key identifiers to correspond to the orientation of the indicia on the template. As a further embodiment an electromagnetic activation by a pen may be used to enter data into a data terminal. Power saving shutdown extends the battery life of the data terminal. A shutdown mode permits resumption of operations by depression of a key. During operations power consumption is reduced by efficient distribution of operations control between microprocessors. The microprocessors have shared access to and control of system operations.

A portable data collection terminal system has a housing having a display screen with coincident graphic data input and a keyboard on the frontal side thereof. An accessory pod, having a width less than the width of the display screen and a handgrip extension adapted to hold a selected accessory device, such as a laser scanner, is disposed on the housing, opposite said frontal side. The accessory pod has one or two activation, diaphragm-type switches disposed in a pod wall disposed transversely to the handgrip extension and extending outwardly from, opposite the frontal side, the housing. The switch or switches are connected in parallel, if more than one, and are disposed near an end of the pod wall such that they are operable by either a user's thumb or finger.

A drive circuit for an electroluminescent panel applies an AC voltage cycle at typical power cycle frequencies by increasing the voltage profile in discrete, pulsed steps at a rate which is at least one order of magnitude greater than the AC frequencies applied to power the panel. A transformer through which the power pulses are applied to the panel is of smaller size than state of the art resonant transformers for applying power cycles to electroluminescent panels. The reduced size of the transformer is advantageous in packaging the drive circuit in portable devices using electroluminescent panels. The voltage steps at the leading edge of the voltage excursions of the AC cycle applied to the panel may be programmably changed to adjust the light output of the panel, or to adjust the power applied by the circuit to correspond to the size of the panel to which the power is applied.
