A power management system for an elevator system. A power management system for an elevator system includes a power converter having three input terminals, two of the three input terminals coupled to a main power source for supplying single-phase AC power to the power management system, the power converter configured to convert the AC power from the main power source into DC power on a common DC bus, a secondary power source for supplying DC power to the common DC bus, a power inverter configured to invert the DC power on the common DC bus into AC output power for driving an electric motor of the elevator system, and a dynamic braking resistor which is coupled between a third input terminal among the three input terminals of the three-phase power converter and the common DC bus.

Power management in an elevator system

A power management system comprises an AC-power-source controller configured to control power supply between the AC power source and a common DC bus, the AC-power-source controller further configured to limit AC power supplied from the AC power source to the common DC bus to a first AC-power-source power limit; a power inverter configured to invert the DC power on the common DC bus into AC output power for driving the electric motor; a DC power source configured to supply DC power to the common DC bus; and a DC-power-source controller configured to control power supply between the DC power source and the common DC bus, the DC-power-source controller further configured to start supplying DC power from the DC power source to the common DC bus in response to a detection of a voltage drop on the common DC bus from a AC-power-source reference voltage to a DC-power-source reference voltage.

Decentralized power management in an elevator system

A new system is described that is able to detect mechanical failures in a rotating shaft or shafts such as those which may be found in an aircraft or other mechanical device or vehicle. The system comprises a first accelerometer provided on the rotating shaft to be monitored and a reference accelerometer provided elsewhere. The system can compensate information received from these accelerometers so as to determine a fault in the rotating shaft that is being monitored.

System for detecting a mechanical fault in a rotating shaft

The present disclosure provides a system and method that provides active damping at the input of a motor drive system without the need for the hardware used in conventional and RC damping circuits. According to the disclosure a virtual damping network is realised at the input of the motor drive system based on modification of field-oriented control, FOC. More specifically, a control algorithm creates a virtual damping impedance at the motor drive input by applying a damping algorithm to both q and d components of the motor current.

Active stabilization of DC link in motor drive systems

The present improvement essentially integrates a DC link inductance within an interphase power transformer (IPT). The integration is achieved by creating auxiliary magnetic paths for leakage inductance inside the IPT core. The magnetic path can be created, for example, by incorporating extra portions of magnetic material commonly referred to hereinafter as shunts. The IPT flux shared between windings does not cross these shunts. Therefore, this magnetic path increases the self-inductance of the IPT but does not contribute to the mutual inductance between windings. This extra magnetic path allows for leakage inductance of a much higher quantity than that achievable with a conventional IPT.
