A multi-tool includes a pair of plates having respective handle portions, joint portions, and head portions, and the plates pivotally connected to each other at the joint portions and having respective opposite edges extended along the handle portions. At least one of the plates is to be pivoted relative to the other of the plates to establish an open position and a closed position of the plates, and, in the closed position of the plates, the plates to overlap each other and the opposite edges of the handle portions of the plates to be substantially aligned.

A fluid seal for sealing a gap region for rolling elements rotationally connecting a shaft and an outer structure of a rotating assembly. In embodiments described, the fluid seal includes an inner capillary seal and an outer capillary seal radially and axially spaced from the inner capillary seal. The inner and outer capillary seals are formed along a passageway having an axial portion and a radial portion formed along capillary surfaces of a fluid seal structure and opposed transverse and upright surfaces. In embodiments disclosed, the fluid seal structure includes a seal ring and cap or a seal plate structure. In another embodiment, a flange portion of the shaft forms the fluid seal structure.

An adaptive guard band scheme is disclosed for a data storage device. In illustrated embodiments, the adaptive guard band scheme formats different guard band cylinders and track zeros for different heads depending upon a contact cylinder of the different heads. In an illustrative embodiment, the adaptive guard band scheme utilizes the contact cylinders for the heads and a no fly cylinder to determine track zero(s) and extended data zone(s) for select heads.

A hermetically sealed housing having a base deck, a cover member and a seal assembly constructed of a liquid crystal material (LCM), the base deck and cover member forming an enclosure containing an inert gas atmosphere. Various embodiments have the LCM seal bonded to one or both of the base deck and cover member and bonded to seal the enclosure by molding, compression, adhesive bonding, thermoplastic welding or soldering, or a combination of such.

An apparatus which establishes an electrical feedthrough for a substrate, such as a housing wall of a data storage device enclosure. A one-piece dielectric body has a base portion configured for support adjacent the substrate, a first projection extending from the base portion through an aperture of the substrate, and a second projection extending from the base portion opposite the first projection. At least one, and preferably a plurality of, electrically conductive traces are plated onto the dielectric body. The trace(s) continuously extend along the first projection, the base portion and the second projection. The dielectric body is preferably formed of a plateable plastic, and the trace(s) are preferably formed thereon using a suitable metallization process. A flex circuit comprising a substantially rectangular, flexible dielectric ribbon preferably attaches to the second projection to establish an electrical communication path with a component interior to the substrate, such as an actuator.

A disk drive motor having a capillary bearing seal is provided. In one embodiment, a disk drive motor includes a stationary assembly and a rotating assembly having a fluid dynamic journal bearing disposed therebetween. A capillary seal is defined proximate an upper end of the journal bearing and coupled to at least one re-circulation path. The capillary seal is configured to advantageously retain lubricating fluids within the motor when the motor is subjected to lateral shock.

The present invention includes a method and apparatus for attenuating flexible circuit resonance. The apparatus includes a flexible circuit assembly. The flexible circuit assembly has a flexible circuit having a flexible cable with first and second sides. The flexible circuit assembly also includes a circuit support. The circuit support includes a base having top and bottom surfaces. The bottom surface is attached to the first side of the flexible cable. The circuit support also includes a support wall extending substantially perpendicularly relative to the top surface of the base. The support wall has a first face, which is substantially oriented towards the top surface of the base. The first side of the flexible cable is attached to the first face and also faces a second face of the support wall to thereby reverse a direction in which the flexible cable faces.

Method and apparatus for attenuating flexible circuit resonance

An improved rotational motor, such as a spindle motor for a disc drive, is provided. The motor first comprises a hub having a shaft portion and a horizontal body portion. The motor also comprises a sleeve surrounding the shaft portion of the hub. A fine vertical gap is retained between the shaft and the inner diameter of the surrounding sleeve. In addition, a fine horizontal gap is provided between the upper hub portion and the top of the sleeve. The vertical gap is filled with a lubricating liquid, such as a clean oil. A capillary seal is provided in the vertical fluid gap at one end. Preferably, the capillary seal is disposed at an upper end of the shaft proximal to the horizontal gap. Novel air pumping grooves are machined along the horizontal fluid gap. When the hub is rotated, the air pumping grooves create a high pressure region in the vicinity of the capillary seal. This forms a high pressure barrier that reduces the number of oil molecules diffusing out of the capillary seal and, therefore, inhibits oil loss from the system.
