A field emission device for use as a backlight of a liquid crystal display comprises a conductive anode having a light-emitting layer and a cathode separated from the anode by a spacer. The cathode comprises nanofiber electron emitters. For example, the nanofiber electron emitters comprise a substrate, a conductive film adhered to the substrate and a plurality of isolated, hemispheroidal nanofiber clusters that are capable of emitting electrons at high current density and low field strength.

Field emission backlight for liquid crystal television

A screen for a color display tube or display window has a structure of apertures in a black matrix and electro-luminescent material in the apertures. Steps in producing the screen include applying the black matrix and the electro-luminescent material, and exposing photosensitive material on the display window to light emitted by a light source and passed through a lens system and a shadow mask. The shadow mask is suspended from the display window and the lens system is positioned between the light source and the shadow mask. On the screen, the lens system realizes a microscopic light distribution of the light originating from the light source radiating towards the screen. The photosensitive material includes a bleaching dye functioning as a contrast enhancer in at least one of the process steps.

Method of producing a screen for a color display tube

A color display device having an electron gun, a display screen, a color selection electrode and a deflection unit. The distance between the electron beams in the x-direction is dynamically varied, whereby the distance in the deflection space decreases as the beams are deflected in at least one direction. The reduction of the distance enables the distance between the color selection electrode and the display screen to be increased in that direction. As a result, the curvature of the color selection electrode is increased, which has a positive effect on the strength and the doming and microphonic properties of the color selection electrode.

Color display device with a deflection-dependent distance between outer beams

A color display device comprises an electron gun, a display screen with a curved inner surface and a flat color selection electrode as well as a deflection means. The distance between the electron beams is dynamically varied, whereby the distance in the deflection space increases as the beams are deflected in at least one direction. The reduction of the distance enables the distance between the color selection electrode and the display screen to be decreased in that direction. As a result, the curvature of the inner surface of the display window is increased, which has a positive effect on the strength and weight of the display window.

Display device comprising a display screen provided with phosphors, and coated with a spectrally selective, light-absorbing coating comprising silicon oxide and at least two dyes. The spectral transmissions for blue, green and red phosphor light are chosen to be such that the electron currents towards the blue, green and red phosphors for obtaining white D (6,500K) are substantially equal.
