A valve actuation system for a power system is provided. The valve actuation system has an engine valve moveable to selectively prevent or allow a flow of fluid relative to the engine valve. The valve actuation system also has a cam assembly with a first cam lobe and a second cam lobe. The valve actuation system also has a cam follower with a first tappet protrusion and a second tappet protrusion. A selective rotation of the cam follower engages either the first tappet protrusion with the first cam lobe to move the engine valve through a first valve event, or the second tappet protrusion with the second cam lobe to move the engine valve through a second valve event.

Variable engine valve actuation system

To prevent seal failure in internal combustion engines, blow-by gasses leaking past the piston rings require venting. However, moving engine components cause airborne oil particles to be mixed in with the gasses. Depending on breather system and engine type, oil carry-over can cause increased operating costs, reduced engine performance and emissions issues. The present invention provides a simple and inexpensive barrier device fitted in a cylinder block. The device is positioned such that oil particles impact on the device and coagulate to form droplets which subsequently run back to the crankcase. Some advantages provided by the present invention are that the engine envelope is unaffected, the barrier device is the only additional part, and the cylinder block requires no or minimal adaptation.

An internal combustion engine (10) having an oil sump (12) mounted below an engine block (14), the engine block accommodating a crankshaft (16) and its associated connecting rods (18) wherein the engine includes a barrier (24) located at a position adjacent a lowermost point in the sweep of a big end (20, 22) of one of said connecting rods, the barrier being dedicated to the connecting rod and acting to restrict oil contained in the sump reaching the vicinity of the connecting rod big end during a lowermost portion of its sweep.

Internal combustion engine having an increased lubricating oil capacity and/or increased gradiability

A method and a device for setting backlash between gears in a gear train. The device comprises a gear device. When the gear device is located in a gear train with a drive gear and a driven gear and brought into mesh therewith, the drive and driven gears mountings can be fastened to secure the positions of said drive and driven gears. The gear device can then be removed and is replaced by an idler gear designed to mesh with the drive and driven gears with an amount of backlash with each predetermined by the gear device. The gear device may comprise a gear oversized by a preset amount. Alternatively, it may comprise a pair of rods pivotally secured together.

Method and a device for setting backlash between gears in a gear train

A piston for an internal combustion engine includes an insert defining an air chamber opening into the combustion chamber. The insert is preformed to a desired configuration and the piston cast around the insert thus securing the insert within the structure of the piston. The insert may be located wholly within the piston or may have a flange part which extends over an outer surface of the piston.
