Phosphor compositions including those having the formulas AEuWMoO, where A is selected from Y, Gd, Lu, La, and combinations thereof; and where 0.5&#x2266;x&#x2266;1.0, 0.01&#x2266;y&#x2266;1.0; MOX, wherein M is selected from the group of Sc, Y, a lanthanide, an alkali earth metal and mixtures thereof; X is a halogen; 1&#x2266;m&#x2266;3; and 1&#x2266;n&#x2266;4, and wherein the lanthanide doping level can range from 0.1 to 40% spectral weight; and Euactivated phosphate or borate phosphors. Also disclosed are light emitting devices including a light source and at least one of the above phosphor compositions.

Red emitting phosphor materials for use in LED and LCD applications

A light source including a specific LED and phosphor combination capable of emitting white light for direct illumination. In one embodiment, the light source includes an LED chip emitting in the 460-470 nm range radiationally coupled to a phosphor comprising CaMg(SiO)Cl:Eu,Mn. In a second embodiment, the light source includes an LED chip emitting at about 430 nm and a phosphor comprising a blend of SrAl1O:Eu(SAE) and a second phosphor having the formula(TbARE)DO, where A is a member selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Gd, and Sm; RE is a member selected from the group consisting of Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu; D is a member selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, and In; x is in the range from 0 to about 0.5, y is in the range from about 0 to about 0.2, and z is in the range from about 4 to about 5. Both embodiments produce light having the coordinates x=0.240-0.260 and y=0.340-0.360 on the CIE chromaticity diagram.

White light LED device

A light emitting device comprised of a light emitting diode on a mounting surface, the light emitting diode includes a substrate layer and at least one active region. A resilient substantially transparent and substantially phosphor free polymer layer extends from the mounting surface to above at least one quarter of a height of the substrate layer but below a top surface of the light emitting diode. A second phosphor containing layer extends from the phosphor free polymer layer to above the top surface of the light emitting diode.

Layered phosphor coatings for LED devices

A lamp containing a radiation source, a luminescent material and a radiation scattering material located between the radiation source and the luminescent material is provided. The lamp may be a white emitting lamp. The radiation source may be a blue emitting LED. The luminescent material may be a yellow emitting phosphor or dye. The radiation scattering material may be ceramic particles, such as TiO particles, in a carrier medium, such as glass, epoxy or silicone.

Solid state illumination system containing a light emitting diode, a light scattering material and a luminescent material

A patterned phosphor structure and EL laminate containing same, forming red, green and blue sub-pixel phosphor elements for an AC electroluminescent display. The patterned phosphor structure includes at least a first and a second phosphor emitting light in different ranges of the visible spectrum, but with combined emission spectra contains red, green and blue light, the first and second phosphors being in a layer, arranged in adjacent, repeating relationship to each other to provide a plurality of repeating first and second phosphor deposits. The phosphor structure also includes one or more means associated with one or more of the first and second phosphor deposits for setting and equalizing the threshold voltages of the red, green and blue sub-pixel phosphor elements, and for setting the relative luminosities of the red, green and blue sub-pixel phosphor elements so that they bear set ratios to one another at each operating modulation voltage used to generate the desired luminosities for red, green and blue.

Electroluminescent laminate with patterned phosphor structure and thick film dielectric with improved dielectric properties

A light source including a specific LED and phosphor combination capable of emitting white light for direct illumination. In one embodiment, the light source includes an LED chip emitting in the 380-420 nm range radiationally coupled to a phosphor blend first phosphor selected from the group consisting of (Sr,Ba,Ca,Mg) (PO ) Cl:Eu (SECA) and BaMg Al O :Eu with a second phosphor having the formula (Tb A RE ) D O (TAG), where A is a member selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Gd, and Sm; RE is a member selected from the group consisting of Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu; D is a member selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, and In; x is in the range from 0 to about 0.5, y is in the range from about 0 to about 0.2, and z is in the range from about 4 to about 5. The light source thus produced will provide a high quality white light.

White light emitting device based on UV LED and phosphor blend

Phosphor blends are disclosed that are capable of absorbing electromagnetic radiation having wavelengths in the range from about 315 nm to about 480 nm. These blends are mixtures of phosphors selected from the group consisting of Sr P O :Eu , Mn , (Ca,Sr,Ba) (PO ) (F,Cl,OH):Eu ,Mn &plus;, 3.5 MgO.0.5MgF .GeO :Mn , Sr Al O :Eu , (Sr,Ba,Ca) (PO ) (Cl,OH):Eu , (Ba,Ca,Sr) MgAl O :Eu , and (Ba,Ca,Sr) MgAl O :Eu ,Mn . White light sources are obtained by applying a phosphor blend over at least one LED that is capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation in the above-noted wavelength range.

Phosphor blends for generating white light from near-UV/blue light-emitting devices

UV reflectors incorporated in UV LED-based light sources reduce the amount of UV radiation emission into the surroundings and increase the efficiency of such light sources. UV reflectors are made of nanometer-sized particles having a mean particle diameter less than about one-tenth of the wavelength of the UV light emitted by the UV LED, dispersed in a molding or casting material surrounding the LED. Other UV reflectors are series of layers of materials having alternating high and low refractive indices; each layer has a physical thickness of one quarter of the wavelength divided by the refractive index of the material. Nanometer-sized textures formed on a surface of the multilayered reflector further reduce the emission of UV radiation into the surroundings. UV LED-based light sources include such a multilayered reflector disposed on an encapsulating structure of a transparent material around a UV LED, particles of a UV-excitable phosphor dispersed in the transparent material. Alternatively, the transparent material also includes nanometer-sized particles of a UV-radiation scattering material.
