A method for preparing ammonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate salt comprising reacting a secondary amine with an aldehyde to form an iminium ion; hydrogenating the iminium ion by reaction with a reducing agent to form a tertiary amine; reacting the tertiary amine with a mineral acid to form an amine salt; and reacting the amine salt with K[B(CF)], Li[B(CF)], or combinations thereof to form an ammonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate salt, wherein the secondary amine is derived from a non-animal source and the aldehyde has seven or more carbon atoms; wherein the ammonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate salt is characterized by a solubility at 25&#xb0; C. in hexane, cyclohexane or methylcyclohexane of at least 10 weight percent; and wherein the tertiary amine has a molecular weight of at least 450 g/mole is provided.

Method of making an olefin polymerization catalyst activator

A method of polymerizing olefins is disclosed. The method comprises contacting ethylene and at least one comonomer with a catalyst system to produce a polyolefin polymer that is multimodal. The catalyst system comprises a first catalyst that promotes polymerization of the ethylene into a low molecular weight (LMW) portion of the polyolefin polymer and a second catalyst that promotes polymerization of the ethylene into a high molecular weight (HMW) portion of the polyolefin polymer. The first catalyst and at least a portion of the second catalyst are co-supported to form a commonly-supported catalyst system and at least a portion of the second catalyst is added as a catalyst trim feed to the catalyst system.

Group 4 metal complexes comprising a polyvalent, heteroaryl donor ligand and their use as components of olefin polymerization catalysts, especially suited for preparing propylene copolymer products having high isotacticity and low molecular weight, are disclosed.

The subject invention pertains to homogeneous liquid low molecular weight ethylene/alpha-olefin polymers having a number average molecular weight (Mn) as determined by gel permeation chromatography, of less than 25,000, a total crystallinity, as measured by DSC, of less than 10%, and a pour point, as measured by ASTM D97, of less than 50&#xb0; C. The subject invention also pertains to homogeneous gel-like low molecular weight ethylene/alpha-olefin polymers having a number average molecular weight (Mn) as determined by gel permeation chromatography, of less than 25,000, a total crystallinity, as measured by DSC, of less than 50%, and a pour point, as measured by ASTM D97, of less than 90&#xb0; C.
