A method and instrumentation for performing a patellofemoral arthroplasty orthopaedic procedure includes coupling an anterior cutting block to a femur of a patient such that the cutting block references local anatomy of the femur. The anterior cutting block is used to perform a number of bone cuts to establish a trochlear cavity in the femur. The trochlear cavity is formed such that a trochlear prosthesis may be inset into the cavity and substantially flush with the surrounding cartilage. A finishing burring guide and burr bit may be used to detail the shape and/or size of the trochlear cavity. Additionally, a trochlear drill guide may be used to facilitate establishing peg holes in the patient's femur to receive corresponding pegs of the trochlear prosthesis.

Orthopaedic surgical instrumentation for performing a patellofemoral arthroplasty procedure

An orthopaedic surgical instrument system includes a sensor adapter and multiple surgical instruments. The sensor adapter includes a housing with a force sensor positioned within the housing and a sensor contact configured to transfer force to the force sensor extending from the housing. Each surgical instrument includes a sensor connector configured to receive the sensor adapter at a predetermined location relative to the surgical instrument. Each sensor adapter further includes a registering feature to engage an anatomical feature of a patient or another surgical instrument. The surgical instruments may include a shim that may be attached to a gap assessment tool or a tibial insert trial. Methods associated with the surgical instrument system are also disclosed.

A system for monitoring bone ingrowth includes an orthopaedic prosthesis having a circuit configured to transmit force sensor data indicative of an amount of force applied to a stem of the orthopaedic prosthesis in response to receiving power from an external power supply. The force sensor data is indicative of bone ingrowth of the orthopaedic prosthesis. As such, an orthopaedic surgeon may monitored the force sensor data over time to ensure bone ingrowth of the orthopaedic prosthesis has sufficiently occurred.

Technologies for monitoring bone ingrowth of an orthopaedic prosthesis

Techniques are provided for controlling delivery of a therapeutic coating to a medical implant device. An identifier of the medical implant device may be received. It may be determined, based at least in part on the first identifier, that the first medical implant device is approved to receive the therapeutic coating. A coating applicator system may be switched from a locked state in which it is prohibited from applying the therapeutic coating to an unlocked state in which it is permitted to apply the therapeutic coating. The coating applicator system may, while in the unlocked state, apply the therapeutic coating to the first medical implant device. After the applying of the therapeutic coating, the coating applicator system may be switched from the unlocked state back to the locked state.
