Various embodiments disclosed herein related to a hand operated cutting tool. The hand operated cutting tool may include a first cutting member; a first handle coupled to the first cutting member; a second handle having a second cutting member; and a pivot connection pivotably coupling the first handle to the second handle. The first cutting member may include a cutting device that defines a bow-shaped cutting profile, wherein the bow-shaped cutting profile facilitates an acceleration of a cut-point position defined by an interaction of the first and second cutting members as the first and second handles move from a fully open position to a fully closed position.

Cutting tool with a flat force profile

A hand operated cutting tool includes a first handle coupled to a first cutting member, the first handle having a first set of projections; and, a second handle coupled to a second cutting member and movably coupled to the first handle, the second handle having a second set of projections. The handles are movable between a full open position and a full closed position, wherein a first region of movement is defined by the first and second sets of projections being at least partly engaged, and wherein a second region of movement is defined by the first and second sets of projections being disengaged.

Cutting tool with a variable pivot system

A hand operated cutting tool includes a first handle coupled to a first cutting member, wherein the first handle has a first set of projections. The hand operated cutting tool also includes a second handle coupled to a second cutting member, wherein the second handle has a second set of projections. The handles are movable between a full open position and a full closed position, wherein during a first region of travel proximate the full open position the first and second gear projections are at least partly engaged, and wherein during a second region of travel proximate the full closed position the first and second gear projections are disengaged.

Cutting device

A hand operated cutting tool includes a first cutting member; a first handle including a second cutting member, wherein the second cutting member is coupled to the first cutting member and includes a first set of projections; and a second handle including a lever, wherein the lever is coupled to the first cutting member and includes a second set of projections. The first and second handles are movable between a full open position and a full closed position, wherein during a first region of travel proximate the full open position the first and second set of projections are disengaged, and during a second region of travel proximate the full closed position the first and second set of projections are at least partly engaged.

A device for forming a pattern in a sheet of material is provided. The device includes a base having a detent portion and a locating portion that provides a first position, a platform moveably coupled to the base, and a punch supported by the platform and configured to move between a reset position and a depressed position. The platform includes a detent element configured to engage the detent portion when the platform is proximate the first position and a locating element configured to provide fine location of the platform in the first position relative to the base by engaging the locating portion. The punch forms a pattern in a sheet of material when the punch moves from the reset position to the depressed position and a sheet of material is present proximate the depressed position.
