The invention provides a class of polymeric materials being ABA tri-block or AB di-block, comprised of biodegradable segments and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) segment and uses thereof.

Biodegradable polymer

A novel fibrinogen-based tissue adhesive patch is disclosed. The patch comprises a backing made from a non-permeable biocompatible polymer film into which a fibrinogen-based sealant is incorporated. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the biocompatible polymer film comprises units of a biocompatible block copolymer such as a polyethylene glycol-polycaprolactone-DL-lactide copolymer connected by urethane linkages, and the fibrinogen-based sealant comprises fibrinogen, thrombin, and CaCl. In contrast to similar patches known in the art, the polymer backing serves to seal the tissue to which the patch is applied, and the sealant acts only to bind the patch to the affected tissue. The patch does not include any mesh, woven, or non-woven component. Methods of production and use of the patch are also disclosed.

Fibrinogen-based tissue adhesive patches

Novel medical devices and uses thereof for lining a blood vessel and/or treating an aneurysm are disclosed herein. The device comprises a non-metallic expandable tubular structure, implantable in a body vessel and being made, at least in part, from a polymeric system characterized by a stiffness which changes upon stimulation under physiological conditions. Novel polymeric systems are further disclosed herein, which are configured to produce a polymeric material upon stimulation under physiological conditions, such that a stiffness of said polymeric material is higher than a stiffness of said system. Uses of polymer systems in the manufacture of a device are further disclosed.

Intraluminal polymeric devices for the treatment of aneurysms

The present invention provides a polymerizable adhesive composition comprising: (i) at least one cyanoacrylate monomer; and (ii) at least one polymerizable compound containing (a) one or more polymerizable carbon-carbon double bonds and (b) one or more biodegradable (BDG) chains. Further are provided the copolymerization product of this composition, and uses thereof in biomedical applications.

Biodegradable adhesive compositions

The present invention relates to novel bioabsorbable polymeric compositions based upon AB polyester polyether or related diblocks and triblocks. Compositions according to the present invention may be used in medical applications, for example, for reducing or preventing adhesion formation subsequent to medical procedures such as surgery, for producing surgical articles including stents and grafts, as coatings, sealants, lubricants, as transient barriers in the body, for materials which control the release of bioactive agents in the body, for wound and burn dressings and producing biodegradable articles, among numerous others.

Polymeric compositions

The present invention relates to novel polymeric compositions based upon A(BCB)Apolyester/polyether multi-blocks. Compositions according to the present invention exhibit unexpectedly exceptional reverse thermal gellation properties and in certain cases, relatively low viscosities at approximately room temperature and extremely high viscosities at temperatures above room temperature (preferably at approximately physiological or body temperature, i.e., within a temperature range of about 32-40&#xb0; C.). Compositions according to the present invention may be used advantageously in applications which make use of their reverse thermal gellation properties. Preferred applications for use of the present compositions include, for example, medical applications which make advantageous use of the inherent composition characteristic of being of relatively low viscosity at room temperature and much higher viscosity at elevated temperatures, especially body temperature.

Reverse thermal gellation polymer of chain-extended optional polyester-terminated PEO-PPO-PEO

A responsive polymeric system including a responsive polymeric component capable of undergoing a transition that results in a sharp increase in viscosity in response to a triggering effected at a predetermined body site. The system includes a solid non-ceramic reinforcing component which reinforces the polymeric component, and an aqueous-based solvent wherein the viscosity of the responsive polymeric component increases by at least about 2 times upon exposure to a predetermined trigger.

Responsive biomedical composites

The present invention relates to a method for reducing adhesions associated with post-operative surgery. The present method comprises administering or affixing a polymeric composition preferably comprising chain extended, coupled or crosslinked polyester/poly(oxyalkylene) ABA triblocks or AB diblocks having favorable EO/LA ratios to a site in the body which has been subjected to trauma, e.g. by surgery, excision or inflammatory disease. In the present invention, the polymeric material provides a barrier to prevent or reduce the extent of adhesions forming.

Methods and compositions for reducing or eliminating post-surgical adhesion formation

A composition exhibiting reverse thermal gellation properties comprises a block polymer having the structure:{[A(BCB)A]}wherein A is a polyester unit, B is a poly(ethylene oxide) unit, C is a poly(propylene oxide) unit, E is a chain extender unit, n=0-20, and m is greater than 2. The ethylene oxide:propylene oxide ratio ranges from about 0.2:1 to about 40:1. The composition has a final viscosity at a final temperature of more than twice the initial viscosity at an initial temperature wherein the final temperature is at least 10&#xb0; C. higher than the initial temperature. The composition is combined with either a cellular material for tissue engineering, a cellular material for effecting repair or healing in a patient, or a bioactive agent.
