There is described a method of manufacturing a dome (), the method comprising: providing a plurality of beams (), each of the plurality of beams () comprising one or more slots (); and engaging at least one of the slots () of each of the plurality of beams () with a slot () of the one or more slots () of another of the plurality of beams () so as to form at least part of the dome (). There is also described a dome () manufactured in accordance with the method.

Method of manufacturing a dome and a dome manufactured using the method

Cladding of the interior of a component part of a pressure vessel is shown. A lining which conforms to at least a portion of the interior geometry of the component is positioned in the interior of the component. The lining is then pressed into the component past its yield strength. The lining is then fused to the component.

Method of cladding a pressure vessel

A method of electropolishing an internal passageway of a component, wherein the passageway has an inlet and an outlet; including: providing an electrode assembly including a flexible electrode, a shuttle and a guide cable extending between the flexible electrode and the shuttle; inserting the shuttle into the inlet; causing fluid to flow through the passageway to transport the shuttle through the passageway from the inlet towards the outlet; pulling the guide cable through the passageway to position the electrode in the passageway adjacent to a region of the passageway to be polished; and electropolishing the passageway using the electrode while moving the electrode within the passageway. Also, an electrode assembly for electropolishing an internal passageway of a component, including: a flexible electrode, a shuttle, and a guide cable extending between the flexible electrode and the shuttle.

Method of electropolishing

A joint assembly joins first and second components about a common axis. The first component has a first end portion having a radially outwardly facing surface shaped to fit radially inside a second surface of a hollow second end portion of the second component to form an interface between the opposing first and second surfaces. The first and second surfaces have a concavity extending laterally with respect to the axis such that when the first and second surfaces are opposingly arranged the opposing concavities define a cavity at the interface. A retaining member is insertable into the cavity at the interface to prevent axial separation of the first and second components. One of the first and second end portions has a free end protrusion axially spaced from the concavity and the other of the first and second end portions has an axially extending recess arranged to receive the free end.

Joint assembly

A turbine vane assembly for use in a gas turbine engine includes turbine vanes, a segmented inner vane support, and an outer vane support. The turbine vanes are arranged around a central axis of the engine. The inner vane support is arranged radially inwardly of the turbine vanes. The outer vane support includes a full-hoop outer support ring located radially outward of the plurality of turbine vanes and extends entirely circumferentially about the central axis. The outer vane support further includes a plurality of discrete support spars coupled to the full-hoop outer support ring and extending radially inward from the full-hoop outer support ring through an interior cavity of a respective turbine vane.

A turbine vane assembly adapted for use in a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of turbine vanes, an outer vane support, and an inner vane support. The plurality of turbine vanes comprise ceramic matrix composite material and are adapted to interact with hot gases flowing through a gas path of the gas turbine engine during use of the turbine vane assembly. A spar system couples the inner vane support with the outer vane support.

A method of manufacturing a planet carrier of a gearbox comprises manufacturing a plurality of preforms. Each preform comprises a base portion, a first end portion connected to a first end of the base portion, a second end portion connected to a second end of the base portion, a first side portion connected to a first side of the base portion, a second side portion connected to a second side of the base portion and a top portion. The first and second end portions and the first and second side portions are folded relative to the base portion and the top portion is folded and the adjacent edges of the portions of each preform are secured together to form a support structure. A first ring and a second ring are manufactured. The first and second end portions of each support structure are secured to the first and second rings respectively.

Method of manufacturing a planet carrier of a gearbox

A method and apparatus for applying a cladding layer to a surface of a component uses a cladding tool having a maximum reach less than the size of the surface. Geometry of the surface is segmented into a plurality of tessellated segments, each of which has a peripheral extent determined by a maximum reach of the cladding tool. A nominal tool subpath for each tessellated segment is generated, and then combined to generate a nominal tool path for depositing the cladding layer on the surface. The surface is clad using the nominal toolpath, including a process of adjusting the nominal tool path to an adjusted tool path that accounts for dimensions of the bead to be deposited by the tool to match an edge of the bead to be deposited with an edge of a previously deposited bead.

Applying a cladding layer to a surface of a component using a cladding tool having a maximum reach less than the size of the surface

A gearbox includes a sun gear, a plurality of planet gears, an annulus gear and a planet carrier. The planet carrier includes a first ring, second ring spaced axially from the first ring, a plurality of circumferentially spaced axles and a plurality of circumferentially spaced support structures extending axially between and secured to the first ring and second ring. Each planet gear is rotatably mounted on a respective one of the axles. The first ring has a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses and the second ring has a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses. Each recess in the second ring is aligned with a corresponding one of the recesses in the first ring. A first end of each support structure locates in a recess in the first ring. A second end of each support structure locates in a recess in the second ring. Each support structure comprises a fused powdered material.

Gearbox and a geared gas turbine engine

Provided herein are x-ray imaging systems, methods of x-radiography, and methods of manufacture of collimators suitable for use in x-ray imaging systems and methods of x-radiography. The systems, methods and devices proposed here may assist in providing for improved magnification of x-rays in an x-ray imaging system with improved image quality compared to known systems. It may find applications in a variety of x-ray applications, for example x-ray CT (Computed Tomography) and 2D projectional radiography for e.g. non-destructing testing purposes.

X-ray imaging systems and methods, and methods of manufacture of collimators for use therein

A method of heat treating a localised region of a component including providing a heat treatment assembly with two or more subassemblies. Each subassembly is configured to partially circumscribe a portion of the component for heat treatment. Each subassembly includes a housing configured to partially circumscribe a portion of the component. An insulator and a heater are provided within the housing and extend to partially circumscribe a component and are arranged such that the insulator is between a wall of the housing and the heater. The method includes positioning the subassemblies adjacently around the component so that the subassemblies fully circumscribe the component. The subassemblies are connected together. The method includes activating the heater to heat the component in a region adjacent the heater.

Method of heat treatment

An apparatus for manufacturing an article from powder material includes a canister, a sorter, a plurality of hoppers and at least one valve. The canister has a predetermined internal shape to define the shape of the powder metal article. The sorter sorts the powder material by the size of the powder particles, the shape of the powder particles and/or the flow characteristics of the powder particles. The hoppers contain powder material with different sizes of powder particles, different shapes of powder particles and/or powder particles with different flow characteristics. The hoppers are arranged to supply the sorted powder material to the canister. The at least one valve controls the proportions of the different powder materials supplied from the one or more of the different hoppers into the canister to control the packing density of the powder material in the canister at all positions in the canister.

Apparatus for manufacturing an article from powder material

A method of controlling a working gap between one or more cathodic tools and an anodic workpiece in an electrochemical material dissolution process, the method comprising: providing a cathodic tool and an anodic workpiece defining a working gap therebetween, the cathodic tool and the workpiece being at least partially immersed in a conductive electrolyte solution; providing a negative electrical potential to the cathodic tool; monitoring one or more of the electrical potential, current, current density and charge between the cathodic tool and the anode to determine the working gap between the cathodic tool and the anode; and, controlling one or more process parameters to maintain one or more of the working gap and electrochemical working conditions between the cathodic tool and anodic workpiece at a targeted value.

Electrochemical polishing of non-uniform features

A component including a substrate with dielectric coating on the substrate. The electrical reactance of the dielectric coating configured for the propagation of electromagnetic surface waves. The dielectric coating is arranged as a plurality of discrete pathways. Also a signal transmission system including a component, an electromagnetic surface wave transmitter coupled to the substrate, and an electromagnetic surface wave receiver also coupled to the substrate.

An apparatus for manufacturing an article from powder material including a first table, a second table rotatably mounted on the first table about a first axis and a third table rotatably mounted on the second table about a second axis. A hollow canister is supported by the third table. A vibrator is arranged to vibrate the canister. A first device is arranged to rotate the second table about the first axis and a second device is arranged to rotate the third table about the second axis. A hopper is arranged to supply powder material into the canister and a valve controls the flow of powder material from the hopper into the canister. A processor is arranged to control the valve, the vibrator, the first device and the second device to control the filling and packing density of the canister.
