A sparging evaporator for an inerting system including an outer vessel, an inner vessel within the outer vessel, and a plenum formed between the inner and outer vessels. The outer vessel includes a gas inlet for receiving inlet gas into the plenum, and a liquid inlet for receiving liquid fuel into the plenum. The inlet gas in the plenum generates a gas pressure that is exerted against a free surface of the liquid fuel in the plenum thereby forcing the liquid fuel and the inlet gas through an inlet of the inner vessel. The inner vessel contains a structure that promotes liberation of fuel vapor from the liquid fuel and enables the inlet gas in the liquid fuel to sparge the fuel vapor in the liquid fuel, thereby forming a fuel-enriched gas mixture that can be fed to a reactor of the inerting system.

A sparging evaporator for an inerting system including an outer vessel, an inner vessel within the outer vessel, and a plenum formed between the inner and outer vessels. Lattice structure for sparging evaporator in catalytic inerting system

An inerting system for a fuel tank containing a liquid fuel and an ullage gas. The inerting system includes a fluid circuit connectable to the fuel tank, an evaporator connected in the circuit, and a reactor connected in the circuit downstream of the evaporator. The evaporator receives a flow of the liquid fuel from the fuel tank and volatilizes at least a portion of the liquid fuel to thereby form a volatilized fuel vapor. The evaporator also receives a flow of the ullage gas from the fuel tank, and permits the ullage gas to sweep away the volatilized fuel vapor downstream with the ullage gas to thereby form a fuel enriched gas mixture containing the ullage gas and the volatilized fuel vapor. The reactor converts at least some of the fuel enriched gas mixture into a non-flammable gas. The circuit supplies at least some of the non-flammable gas to the fuel tank.

Catalytic inerting system with fuel vapor enrichment

A catalytic inerting system (CIS) architecture includes a fuel tank including a fuel tank inlet and a fuel tank outlet, the fuel tank defining a space for containing a liquid fuel and an ullage space above the liquid fuel containing an ullage gas. A catalytic reactor is in fluid communication with the fuel tank, the catalytic reactor having a catalytic inlet and a catalytic outlet, wherein the catalytic reactor receives an ullage gas flow from the fuel tank outlet and performs a catalytic reaction on the ullage gas to produce a more inert flow from the catalytic outlet to the fuel tank inlet. A bypass line provides a flow pathway between the fuel tank inlet and the fuel tank outlet, thereby bypassing the fuel tank, and a flow control mechanism controls relative flows of the inert flow from the catalytic outlet to the fuel tank inlet versus through the bypass line.

Catalytic inerting system architecture and control methods for increased fuel tank safety

A system for humidifying a fuel cell includes: a container including an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide; a source of pressurized gas coupled to the container for pressurizing the hydrogen peroxide solution container; and a catalyst reaction chamber including a catalyst for decomposing hydrogen peroxide into a gaseous mixture of water vapor and oxygen. The gaseous mixture of water vapor and oxygen is combined with a flow of reactant oxidant gas to obtain a humidified oxidant gas stream, which is delivered to the fuel cell.

System and method for fuel cell cathode gas humidification

A combination lid and straw for covering a drinking container has a lid, a straw having an interlocking portion, and at least one venting slot. The lid has a lid perimeter adapted to be attached to the drinking container, and a straw aperture having an inner surface. The interlocking portion of the straw is shaped to interlock with the straw aperture to resist movement of the straw relative to the lid. The venting slots are formed between the inner surface of the straw aperture of the lid, and the outer surface of the straw. Each of the venting slots has a diameter that is large enough to allow air to vent into the container, but small enough to restrict liquid from leaking from the container. The drinking straw has a proximal and distal end. One or both ends may be shaped to prevent a water droplet from leaking from the drinking straw. The drinking straw body may have flexibility and a specific gravity greater than 1 so that when the container is held in a non-vertical orientation, the distal end of the elongate straw body remains submerged in the fluid within the container, without the addition of weights to the distal end of the straw body.

Combination lid and straw for a drinking container

A servo valve including a piezo-electric actuator, a flexible linkage, and control valves. The piezo-electric actuator is actuatable along a piezo stack axis. The flexible linkage is coupled to the piezo-electric actuator at opposite axial ends of the actuator. Control valves are disposed at laterally opposite sides of the piezo stack axis and include respective valve stems coupled to the flexible linkage. The flexible linkage may be configured to transfer motion of the piezo-electric actuator along the piezo stack axis to a motion of the valve stems along an amplification axis that is transverse to the piezo stack axis to open and close the control valves. A symmetric actuation element incorporating the piezo-electric actuator, or a different actuator, may have first and second chambers at laterally opposite sides thereof, and be electrically actuatable along an actuation axis to open and close supply and return ports to control fluid communication with respective first and second work ports of respective first and second chambers.

Hydraulic servo valve

A drinking container has a spinner mechanism that includes a spinner housing for providing a spinner chamber. A spinner disk fits securely within the spinner chamber when rotatably mounted therein. The spinner mechanism includes a fluid input through the chamber perimeter surface, and a fluid outlet for allowing the liquid out of the spinner chamber once it has contacted the spinner disk. A jet nozzle directs a liquid from the fluid input across top and bottom surfaces of the spinner disk. The spinner disk does not include paddles, but relies primarily on viscous and adhesive forces to transfer energy from the flowing liquid to the surface of the spinner disk.
