A transparent adapter hinged to a flatbed scanner for the scanning of a transparency or negative, including a hot cathode-ray tube to provide light, a refractor mounted around the hot cathode-ray tube to refract light from the hot cathode-ray tube onto a document, for permitting the image of the document to be picked up by a charge-coupled device in the optical scanner, and to prevent light from being directly projected by the hot cathode-ray tube onto the document.

Transparency adapter for flatbed scanners

An optical system for a flatbed scanner, including a first optical unit to emit light onto a document and to reflect the image of the document, a second optical unit to receive reflected light from the first optical unit and to reflect it, a third optical unit to receive reflected light from the second optical unit and to send it out, and a fourth optical unit to receive light from the third optical unit and to pick up the image from it, wherein the first optical unit, the second optical unit and the third optical unit can be independently moved relative to the fourth optical unit subject to a predetermined setting made in the optical scanner.

To drive the optical system independently by CPU in flatbed scanners

A method to simplify the use of a plurality of identical processors connected in parallel. The method contains the steps of: (a) obtaining a computer system having a CPU and a plurality of identical processors connected in parallel, the processors are also connected to the CPU; (b) obtaining first and second clocks of different oscillation frequencies, wherein the first clock having a slower oscillation frequency than the second clock; (c) connecting the first clock to only one of the plurality of processors and connecting the second clock to the rest of the plurality of processors; and (d) instructing the CPU to check only the processor connected to the first clock, which is connected to the slower clock, for a ready signal, and instructing the CPU to proceed to next step if a ready signal is received from the processor connected to said first clock.

Two clock method for synchronizing a plurality of identical processors

A simple digital method is disclosed for controlling the digital signals sent out from a pluralities of identical signal processors (i.e, signal generators) so as to achieve synchronization. The method comprises the steps of: (a) obtaining a gate array logic circuit containing a plurality of pairs of comparison terminals and reference terminals, each of the comparison terminals is connected to a respective signal processor and the reference terminals are respectively connected to at least two different signal processors; (b) performing a gate array logic circuit operation, which comprises the following sub-steps: (i) performing a waiting procedure for each pair of comparison terminal and reference terminal until it is received that the comparison terminal is '1' and the reference terminal is '0', then moving to a gate procedure; otherwise, continuing the waiting procedure (i.e., no disable signal is sent out); (ii) performing a gate procedure by continuously sending out a '1' gate signal, i.e., the gate being set at '1' state (i.e., disable signal), until a '1' signal is received at the reference terminal is '1', then moving to a reset procedure; (c) performing a reset procedure by sending out a '0' gate output, i.e., the output gate being set at '0' state, the reset procedures continues until the reference terminal is '0', then going back to said waiting procedure; wherein a '0' gate signal indicating that system synchronization is normal, thus no disable action is taken, and a '1' gate signal indicating that one of the signal generators connected to a specific comparison reference is too fast and a disable action is taken. No disable action is taken during either the 'waiting' or the 'resetting' procedure; however, only the waiting procedure can be switched to the gate procedure (i.e., a disable action being taken).

Simple digital method for controlling digital signals to achieve

A combined alarm and display belted clinical thermometer being wound on an arm of a user which comprises a thermal sensor to sense the temperature of the user. The sensing signals are converted and the measured value is displayed on an LCD display. The belted clinical thermometer also comprises a comparator which is preset witha reference value to comparing the measured temperature with a reference temperature and; if the measured temperature is significantly larger than the reference temperature, an alarm is triggered to sound. Further to the basic design, the belted clinical thermometer can be equipped with a transmitter which can signal a remote receiver to sound an alarm.
