A communication system includes a switching system and a service control system. The switching system receives and processes a communication request to transfer a query message. The service control system receives and processes the query message to generate and transfer a response message indicating a route. The switching system receives and processes the response message indicating the route and transfers a communication using the route. The service control system may process the query message with multiple parallel functions to generate an action message and process the action message to select the route.

Centralized service control for a telecommunication system

A service control point comprising multiple interfaces configured to receive multiple query messages from requesting devices using multiple different protocols, wherein all of the interfaces provide access to the call processing applications within the SCP. The service control point is configured to process the query messages and generate response messages, which are transmitted back to the requesting devices using their respective protocols.

Telecommunications service control point interface

A switching system receives a first message for a call and transfers a second message. A centralized processing system processes the second message to identify first route information and redirect capability for the first called party, and transfers a third message indicating the first route information and redirect capability. The switching system processes the third message to initiate first communications between the caller and first called party. The switching system receives and processes a fourth message from the first called party indicating redirect information for a second called party to transfer a fifth message indicating the redirect capability and the redirect information. The processing system receives and processes the fifth message to identify second route information, and transfers a sixth message indicating the second route information. A signaling processor receives a first signaling message indicating a called telephone number for the call. The signaling processor processes the called telephone number from the first signaling message to determine if call validation is required. If the call validation is not required, then the signaling processor processes the called telephone number to determine routing information without the call validation. If the call validation is required, then the signaling processor determines if the call is valid, and if the call is valid, then the signaling processor processes the called telephone number to determine the routing information. The signaling processor transfers a second signaling message indicating the routing information for the call.

System for managing telecommunications

A communication system comprises a signaling processor configured to receive telecommunication signaling for calls, and responsively on a call-by-call basis, select routing information based on the telecommunication signaling and transfer control messages indicating the routing information. The communication system comprises a communication unit configured to receive the control messages and user communications for the calls, and responsively on the call-by-call basis, convert the user communications from a first communication format into a second communication format having headers that include the routing information selected by the signaling processor and transfer the user communications in the second communication format.

Broadband telecommunications system

A call processing system receives a call request, and in response, generates a call identification, establishes context information, and transfers the call identification and the context information. A context server receives the call identification and the context information, and in response, stores the context information in association with the call identification. A communication path is established for the call between the caller and a call destination, and the call destination receives the call identification. The context server receives a context request from the call destination indicating the call identification and an information template, locates the context information using the call identification, selects a set of the context information based on the information template, and transfers the selected set of the context information to the call destination. The call destination handles the call based on the selected set of the context information.

Method and system for handling calls in a communication network

A service control point comprising a processing system coupled to an interface. The processing system is configured to process a first message to generate a second message containing instructions to a communication device to collect digits from a caller, and process a third message with the collected digits to generate a fourth message with call handling information for a call. The interface is configured to receive the first message from the communication device, transmit the second message for the communication device, receive the third message from the communication device and transmit the fourth message for the communication device.

Telecommunications service control point with digit collection logic

A communication system for providing caller identification services comprises a processing system configured to store a data structure having a plurality of codes associated with a plurality of caller numbers, and to translate one of the codes into one of the caller numbers using the data structure. The communication system further comprises a communication interface configured to receive a first call request for a call including the one code and transfer a second call request for the call including the one caller number.

Caller identification in a communication system

The invention includes a system for processing telecommunications signaling. Signaling for a call is received into a signaling processor. The signaling processor processes the call and generates new signaling incorporating the processing. The new signaling is transferred to network elements as appropriate. The signaling processor is not coupled to a switch matrix and only communicates with the network elements over signaling links.

A service control system processes call information to transfer first context information to a context server and to transfer the first call information to a destination server. The destination server processes the call information to transfer second context information for the call to the context server and to transfer destination information indicating a call destination to the service control system. The service control system processes the destination information to transfer routing information for the call to a communication network. The communication network processes the routing information to route the call to the call destination indicated by the destination information. The call destination processes the call to transfer third context information for the call to the context server. Billing information is generated the call based on the first context information, the second context information, and the third context information in the context server.

A telecommunications system comprising a service control point having call redirection logic and speed dial translation logic and a switching system connected to the service control point. The service control point is configured to receive a first message and process the first message to generate a second message containing first call handling information for a call, receive a third message that includes a first speed dial number and process the third message to generate a fourth message with second call handling information for the call. The switching system is configured to transmit the first message and the third message for the SCP and receive the second message and the fourth message from the SCP.

A Service Control Point (SCP) directs a telecommunications network to connect a resource only when the resource is needed. When the resource is no longer needed, the SCP selects a new connection for the network. The SCP directs the network to disconnect the resource and use the new connection so the resource does not remain on the line during the entire call. The invention can be used to add and drop multiple resources from a call while the call is in progress. The SCP also provides context information for the call so multiple resources can access context information for the call.

Telecommunications resource connection and operation using a service control point

A method and system for handling a call in a communications network that requires operator assistance. The system comprises a service control point, an operator server and a context server. The operator server dynamically selects an optimal operator center from a plurality of available operator centers for the call based on context information. The operator server then provides information on the selected operator center to the service control point, which generates call handling information for the call that causes the communications network to route the call to the selected one of the operator centers. The context server manages the context information for the call.
