Systems and methods of controlling transmissions of a media stream are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method performed by a media client for controlling a transmission of a media stream from a media server to the media client may include obtaining a media description of the media stream. The media description may indicate an initial stream element of the consecutive stream elements. Further, the method may include sending a request for the initial stream element. In addition, the method may include requesting, towards a control entity for a session, an establishment of the session or a modification of the session, for associating the media stream with the session. After sending the request for the initial stream element, the method may include receiving a result of the session establishment or session modification request.

Method for controlling first and second resources in a system including first and second components managing the first and second resources, respectively and at least one host hosting the second resource in a cloud environment, one of the first and second components comprises a compute component and the other comprises a storage component, one of the first and second resources is a compute resource and the other is a storage resource, the method comprising: causing the first component to send an inquiry request including an inquiry relating to the second resource, to the second component; causing the second component to send an inquiry response including information on the at least one host, to the first component; causing the co-location of the first and second resources on a single host that is either the at least one host or a further host hosting the first resource, based on the inquiry response.

Methods and devices for providing a media description of a media stream to a client are described. The client is subscribed to a media description delivery service. The media description delivery service comprises a media description delivery rule. A request for a media description delivery is sent to a media server. From the media server a media description is received. It is verified that the received media description complies with the media description delivery rule and if the verification is in the affirmative, a delivery of the media description is initiated to the client.

Methods and devices for media description delivery

In general, it is proposed to define techniques for managing a virtual storage volume in a cloud architecture comprising hosts which provide storage volume. The managing is achieved by checking the available virtual storage volume when a storage service request from a request interface is received. The virtual storage volume comprises at least one storage volume being assigned to the virtual storage volume. In case the storage service request can not be fulfilled by the available virtual storage volume, a request to the request interface is sent for requesting additional storage volume directly from at least one host. Upon receipt of an accept message that a storage volume fulfilling the storage service is exiting and available, the request interface initiates assigning of the additional storage volume to the virtual storage volume. As next the storage service request is executed on the virtual storage volume.

Managing of storage resources

For streaming data in a mobile communication network, a descriptive file of a stream is provided. The descriptive file comprises a list of delivery source identifiers, e.g. URIs, for unicast delivery of data segments of the stream. A broadcast indicator is selectively added to the descriptive file so as to indicate whether broadcast delivery of the data segments is available. Adding the broadcast indicator and initiating the broadcast delivery may be accomplished on the basis of a popularity of the stream.

For streaming data in a mobile communication network, a descriptive file () of a stream () is provided. Synchronizing cameras, connected via a telecommunication network, for capturing a multi-view session can be controlled by a synchronization module. The synchronization module determines a multi-view capturing parameter from a capturing parameter that is received from at least one camera. The multi-view capturing parameter is provided by the synchronization module to the cameras participating in the capturing session in order to synchronize the capturing of the multi-view session. Further, a camera device informs the synchronization module of the disposability and capturing parameter of the camera. The camera receives the multi-view capturing parameter for use in capturing the session.

Techniques for compressing and decompressing license information for Digital Rights Management are described. A method implementation of a technique of creating for a plurality of client devices or client device groups compressed license information comprises the steps of creating a template and a table. The table comprises at least one first license part common to licenses for the plurality of client devices or client device groups and one or more placeholders for one or more second license parts specific for a dedicated client device or client device group. The table comprises, for each client device or client device group and for a given placeholder, replacement information specific for that client device or client device group. The method further comprises sending the template and table for delivery as compressed license information to the client devices or client device groups.

A method for controlling the transmission of a media stream comprising a plurality of consecutive stream elements Is described. The method comprises the step of obtaining () a media description of the media stream, the media description indicating an initial element of the stream elements. A request for the initial stream element is sent () and a session control procedure is initiated () for a session. The media stream is associated () with the session in the session control procedure. The transmission of a subsequent element of the stream elements is controlled in accordance with a control rule of the session. Devices and further methods embodying the invention are also described.

Techniques for allocation of a VLAN for a deployment by at least one VM provided on a host in a network. A VLAN manager is adapted to allocate a free physical VLAN identifier to the requested virtual VLAN identifier. The VLAN manager queries a VLAN mapping table for determining a free physical VLAN identifier. In case the physical VLAN identifier for the requested virtual VLAN identifier is in use, a procedure for determining the at least one free physical VLAN is performed. The determination procedure may be based on pre-defined zoning or it may apply a retagging after a free physical VLAN identifier has been calculated. The determined physical VLAN identifier is assigned to the requested VLAN. The VLAN switch devices are instructed about the assignment between the virtual and the physical VLAN identifier in order to apply the assignment of the data packets transported over the requested VLAN.

A technique for creating a resource in a cloud computing system is described. A method implementation of this technique comprises providing a plurality of predefined base resource descriptions, each base resource description defining a base resource in the cloud computing system and specifying one or more properties of the base resource, providing a plurality of predefined modifiers, each modifier being applicable to a resource in the cloud computing system to add, remove or change a property of the resource, wherein each modifier is associated with metrics information, and receiving a resource request indicating one or more desired properties for a target resource in the cloud computing system. In response to receipt of the resource request, a selection operation is performed to select a base resource description and one or more modifiers that are to be applied to the base resource corresponding to the selected base resource description to create the target resource in the cloud computing system, wherein the selection operation is based on the metrics information. In a next step, the selected base resource description is deployed to create the corresponding base resource in the cloud computing system, and application of the selected modifiers to the base resource in the cloud computing system is triggered to create the target resource.
