Systems and methods for balancing load in an area of a wireless network comprising first nodes operating according to a first Radio Access Technology and at least one second node operating according to a second Radio Access Technology. The method comprises establishing a connection between a user device and a first node; receiving an indication of an entry threshold for establishing a connection between the user device and a second node during a current time period, wherein the entry threshold is determined in dependence on an expected usage requirement for the area of the wireless network during the current time period; determining, by the user device, whether a parameter of a signal received from the second node exceeds the entry threshold; and responsive to determining that the parameter of the signal received from the second node exceeds the entry threshold, establishing, by the first node, a dual connectivity session between the user device and both the first and the second nodes.

A method for supporting vehicular communications in a cellular network includes analyzing whether an incoming message is a vehicle data message or a base station control message. In the case that the incoming message is a base station control message of a specific base station: updating and/or storing the network operating parameters of the specific base station for controlling a transmission of selected vehicle data messages to the specific base station. In the case that the incoming message is a vehicle data message of a sending vehicle, determining at least one destination vehicle out of a provided and/or stored list of registered vehicles participating in the vehicular communication. The method also includes transmitting the vehicle data message to the at least one destination vehicle dependent on the at least one operating parameter of a respective receiving base station the at least one destination vehicle is connected to.

A clusterhead device is capable of relaying group messages from a cellular network to an ad-hoc network, and vice versa. However, not every device that comprises a clusterhead device is activated as a clusterhead. Rather, only devices that do not receive enough beacon signals emitted by each motor vehicle are activated as a clusterhead. It is thus achieved that not too many motor vehicles function as a gateway.

A non-coherent multi-user MIMO communication method is disclosed. Firstly, a data transmission method includes the acts of a) estimating the signal-to-noise ratio for each receiver; b) selecting a power sharing factor for each receiver; c) encoding information to be sent to each receiver into a symbol for each receiver; and d) transmitting, by a transmitter, a signal that includes the power sharing factors and the symbols for all of the receivers. Furthermore, a reception method includes the acts of: i) receiving the power sharing factor; ii) decoding the signal corresponding to the highest power sharing factor; iii) determining if the signal decoded in step ii) corresponds to the current receiver; iv) if the decoded signal corresponds to the current receiver, finalize the reception; and v) if the decoded signal does not correspond to the current receiver, proceed with the following power sharing factors.

A method for broadcast service following for a vehicle includes a first step of continuously, or in given time intervals, estimating a signal quality and/or signal availability of the DAB service and/or the cellular network based broadcast service in a route section the vehicle is expected to reach in a given time span. The method also includes a second step of performing a handover from the DAB service to the corresponding cellular network based broadcast service dependent on the estimated signal quality and/or signal availability. The first step may depend on provided data base information. The first step may in addition, or in the alternative, depend on service information, which is included in a received DAB signal.
