A pallet having a body topped by a deck with foldable deck flaps. The deck has two or more foldable flaps near each edge of the body platform, and a center portion. With the flaps folded into their down position, the pallet provides a nearly solid upper deck support for the load articles. With the flaps folded into their stowing position, the tops of the hollow legs are exposed so as to allow other unloaded pallets to be stacked and nested upon the pallet. The flaps may be interchanged with other flaps of alternate dimensions so as to provide a pallet with adjustable deck dimensions. Multiple attachment points for the flaps such that the flaps may be attached at positions with more or less overhang from the edges of the body, providing a more convenient method of deck dimension adjustment without the need for a variety of flap sizes.

A pallet truck for manually transporting loaded pallets is provided with a momentary locomotion means that assists an operator in starting a load moving from a state of rest. The locomotion subsystem is of suitable weight and size to allow the power-assisted pallet truck to be manually operated, and to allow for use of the pallet truck in similar space constraints as manual pallet trucks. In an enhanced embodiment, a governor switch is provided which disables the power-assistance after the load has been accelerated to walking speed in order to protect the motor from use as a full-time locomotion means.

A reinforced pallet (10) includes an upper surface (11) and a pair of opposing support sides (14, 15). The pallet (10) also includes at least one reinforcing bar channel (50) and a reinforcing bar (40) received within reinforcing bar channel (50). A twin-sheet pallet (10) is formed vacuum-forming a first plastic sheet (33a) to a first mold section (30) and a second plastic sheet (33b) to a second mold sheet (31), wherein a preselected portion of the second mold section (31) is sealed such that the second plastic sheet (33b) is not vacuum-formed. The mold sections (30, 31) are then moved together and the sheets (33a, 33b) are compressed together at preselected locations. A thermoformed, plastic pallet (10) for bearing and positioning a load, also includes and a retaining wall assembly (90) carried by the upper surface (11); the retaining wall assembly (90) including a wall-receiving slot (91) in the upper surface (11) and a retaining wall (92) received and positioned within the slot (91).
