A wheel guard is provided for use on a material handling vehicle comprising a steering assembly, an axle extending through the steering assembly and a steer wheel mounted on the axle. The wheel guard may comprise: a front plate to be positioned adjacent to the steer wheel; an axle support coupled to and extending transverse to the front plate and comprising an axle aperture through which the vehicle axle is to be extended, the wheel guard to be rotatable about the axle; and a stop coupled to at least one of the front plate or the axle support to limit rotational movement of the wheel guard about the axle.

A cart transportation assembly includes a frame including at least one upright and a top rail supported by the upright(s). The top rail includes a main body portion, an actuation rod, and at least one cart latch coupled to the actuation rod. The actuation rod is movable relative to the main body portion to transition the cart latch(es) between release and restrain positions. A platform provides structural support for the frame and includes a deck for supporting at least one cart. The cart latch(es), when in the release position, is/are adapted to allow movement of the at least one cart on the deck of the platform. The cart latch(es), when in the restrain position, is/are adapted to restrain movement of the at least one cart on the deck of the platform by pulling the at least one cart towards and against or in close proximity to the frame.

An improved cart and pallet system and an improved compactly stackable pallet for use in the system are disclosed. The improved pallet has a central support extending beneath the pallet with channels on either side of the support. The support and channels are engaged by a ledged, generally U-shaped deck of a cart or pallet truck of the application.

An adjustable backrest assembly for a materials handling vehicle. The backrest assembly includes an adjustable backrest structure and mounting structure for mounting the adjustable backrest structure on the materials handling vehicle so that the adjustable backrest structure extends generally vertically over load handling apparatus of the materials handling vehicle. The mounting structure enables pivoting movement of the adjustable backrest structure from a first position generally adjacent a power unit of the materials handling vehicle wherein pallets of a first size are accommodated to at least a second position spaced along the load handling apparatus from the power unit wherein pallets of a second size are accommodated.

An adjustable eccentric axle caster assembly for a pallet truck is provided. The adjustable caster assembly includes an eccentric axle, a caster wheel mounted on the eccentric axle, and a fastener for securing the eccentric axle to provide a desired caster wheel position. Additionally, a method of adjusting the eccentric axle caster assembly is provided.

A coast control device for a walkie/rider pallet truck locks the position of a steering arm of the truck to prevent movement by a deadman mechanism. The disclosed locking device is a brake: an armature plate mounted to the steering arm; and an electromagnet coupled to a steering head that is operated to activate coasting operation. The brake force can be overcome by an operator to manually apply the truck brake or to reposition the steering arm to a new position where it is again locked. For controlling coasting operation, the brake is manually engaged by an actuator mounted adjacent to or on a grab bar that is to be gripped by an operator riding on the truck. With the actuator so located, coasting operation can be conveniently engaged while the operator is walking beside the truck.

A fork lift truck is provided comprising: a power unit including an operator's compartment and at least one equipment compartment; a pair of forks; a fork carriage assembly coupled to the forks; and a mast assembly. The mast assembly is coupled to the fork carriage assembly and the power unit for vertically moving the fork carriage assembly including the forks relative to the power unit. A hydraulic pump system is also provided. It has at least one hydraulic motor/pump assembly mounted in the at least one equipment compartment and at least one fluid reservoir located laterally of the mast assembly.

Enhanced visibility rider reach fork lift truck

A fork lift truck includes a body, a drive mechanism supported on the body for effecting movement of the body, and a fork carrying assembly carrying forks which can be moved in height between a lowered position and desired raised positions. A tilt cylinder is provided for tilting the forks through a fork tilt range. The truck further includes a pressure sensor capable of generating signals indicative of the weight of a load on the forks, a fork tilt position sensor capable of being activated when the forks are tilted to extremes of the fork tilt range, and a controller. The controller is coupled to the drive mechanism, the pressure sensor and the fork tilt position sensor. It causes the drive mechanism to effect movement of the body up to a first maximum speed when at least one of the pressure sensor generates a signal indicative of a load on the forks having a weight above a predetermined value and the tilt position sensor is activated, and causes the drive mechanism to effect movement of the body up to a second maximum speed which is greater than the first maximum speed when the pressure sensor generates a signal indicative of no load or a load on the forks having a weight below the predetermined value and the tilt position sensor is inactivated. The lowering speed of the forks can also or alternatively be increased under the same operating conditions.

Travel and fork lowering speed control based on fork load weight/tilt

A fork lift truck capacity monitor or alerting device informs operators of the weight on the forks and fork height and alerts operators whenever truck speed is above creep with the forks raised above a collapsed height or whenever the forks are raised above a recommended height for a given load. The alerting device includes a control circuit that receives inputs from a speed sensor, a fork height sensor and a weight sensor and reads a memory storing data correlating load weights with maximum recommended fork heights. A truck icon is displayed on a display panel. A plurality of height zone lamps representing the weight of the load on the forks are arranged in a vertical column over the truck icon and selectively illuminated according to the load on the forks. A plurality of lamps represent the height of the forks with the fork height lamps, which include one lamp positioned to represent a lowered position of the forks and a plurality of lamps equal in number to the height zone lamps and placed horizontally opposite therefrom, being selectively illuminated according to the height of the forks. An alarm signal alerts operators whenever the forks are raised above the recommended height for a given load weight, or whenever truck speed exceeds a predetermined maximum speed and the forks are above the collapsed height. The alarm signal may include a combination of an audible signal, a text message, and a flashing lamp.

Method and apparatus for providing operating information to an operator

An improved pallet truck, having an extended length pair of forks capable of supporting multiple, side-by-side, pallets which may be raised well above the floor to assist an operator in an order selection operation, includes a first fork lifting mechanism connected to one end of a pair of primary forks. A pair of load wheels are mounted on levers at a other end of the forks and are mechanically connected to the first fork lifting mechanism which causes the other end of the primary forks to be raised from a lower level to an upper level simultaneously with the raising of the first end thereby to maintain the primary forks level while lifting the maximum capacity of the truck. A pair of secondary forks are mounted above the primary forks and are movable from a nested position with respect to the first forks to a raised position by a second fork lifting mechanism carried by the primary forks. The ends of the secondary forks are supported by a pair of hydraulic cylinders attached between the secondary forks and the primary forks, thus providing support and rigidity to the secondary forks while they are in a raised position.
