A high magnitude potential supply comprises a first circuit for generating a first signal related to a desired output high magnitude potential across a pair of output terminals of the supply, a second circuit for generating a second signal related to an output current from the high magnitude potential supply, and a third circuit for supplying an operating potential to the high magnitude potential supply so that it can produce the high magnitude operating potential. The third circuit has a control terminal. A fourth circuit is coupled to the first and second circuits and to the control terminal. The fourth circuit receives the first and second signals from the first and second circuits and controls the operating potential supplied to the high magnitude potential supply by the third circuit. A fifth circuit is provided for disabling the supply of operating potential to the high magnitude potential supply in certain conditions so that no high magnitude operating potential can be supplied by it. The fifth circuit is also coupled to the control terminal.

Power supply control system

A high magnitude potential supply comprises a first circuit (220, 224) for generating a first signal related to an output high magnitude potential (KV) across a pair of output terminals (113 and ground) of the supply, a second circuit (210, 218) for generating a second signal related to a desired output current from the high magnitude potential supply, and a third circuit (Q2B, Q2C, Q7 and associated components) for supplying an operating potential (VCT) to the high magnitude potential supply so that it can produce the high magnitude operating potential. The third circuit has a control terminal (COMP terminal of 86). The supply further comprises a fourth circuit (86) coupled to the first (220, 224) and second (210, 218) circuits and to the control terminal (COMP terminal of 86). The fourth circuit (86) receives the first and second signals from the first (220, 224) and second (210, 218) circuits and controls the operating potential supplied to the high magnitude potential supply by the third circuit (Q2B, Q2C, Q7 and associated components). The supply further comprises a fifth circuit (84, 240, 242, 244) for disabling the supply of operating potential to the high magnitude potential supply so that no high magnitude operating potential can be supplied by it. The fifth circuit (84, 240, 242, 244) is also coupled to the control terminal (COMP terminal of 86).

A quick disconnect for a coating material dispensing device includes a passageway through which coating material is supplied from a supply conduit for dispensing. The supply conduit includes a first region along its length provided with a surrounding O-ring. The passageway includes a sidewall providing a second region along its length in which the first region resides when the supply conduit is positioned in a use orientation in the dispensing device. The second region compresses the O-ring into fluid-tight sealing orientation against the passageway sidewall in the second region when the supply conduit is inserted into the passageway into its use orientation.

Quick disconnect for an automatic coating device

A device for atomizing and dispensing a first liquid coating material onto a first group of one or more articles to be coated by the first coating material and then for dispensing a second liquid coating material onto a second group of one or more articles to be coated by the second coating material. The device includes at least one atomizer providing a first flow rate of the first and second coating materials required for high quality atomization of the first and second coating materials, and a second outlet providing a second and substantially greater flow rate of the first and second coating materials and lower quality atomization than the first atomizer, or no atomization. A first conduit couples the second outlet to the first atomizer. A second conduit couples the first atomizer to a source of fluid to be dispensed. A valve controls the flow of liquid to the second outlet. Operation of the valve between dispensing of the first coating material onto articles to be coated thereby and dispensing of the second coating material onto articles to be coated thereby, coupled with dispensing of a flushing medium through the first and second conduits, flushes excess coating material simultaneously through both the at least one atomizer and the second outlet from the dispensing device.

Automatic coating using conductive coating materials

A coating material dispensing system comprises a hazardous area and a non-hazardous area. Multiple coating material type controls have coating material input ports, coating material output ports, and control ports for controlling the passage of a type of coating material controlled by each respective coating material type control from its input port to its output port. A controller generates control signals for controlling the multiple coating material type controls. The control signals are multiplexed in the non-hazardous area, and transmitted into the hazardous area where they are demultiplexed and provided to the coating material type controls. The demultiplexer and coating material type controls are intrinsically safe.

An electrostatically aided coating dispensing system in which the high distributed capacitance of a high voltage cable for connecting the high voltage supply to dispensing device is entirely eliminated.

A bi-directional system for ensuring that a ground connection is made in a three-wire conductor system including a line 'hot' conductor, a line neutral conductor, and a ground conductor includes a circuit for generating direct current potential related to the potential difference between the line 'hot' conductor and ground and a second circuit for generating a direct current potential related to the potential difference between the line 'hot' conductor and ground. A circuit including a male plug for insertion into a female receptacle includes a first prong for coupling alternatively to the line 'hot' conductor or the line neutral conductor, a second prong for coupling alternatively to the line 'hot' conductor or the line neutral conductor, and a third prong for coupling to the line ground conductor. Coupling of the first prong to the line 'hot' conductor causes the second prong to be coupled to the line neutral conductor and coupling of the first prong to the line neutral conductor causes the second prong to be coupled to the line 'hot' conductor. Conductors are provided for coupling the first circuit to the first and third prongs and for coupling the second circuit to the second and third prongs. Each of the first and second circuits includes a Zener diode for sensing the potential across the 'hot' and ground conductors and for switching in response to the presence of potential difference, which tends to indicate the presence of ground potential on the ground conductor.

Ground assurance circuit

An electrostatic charging potential generator for a coating dispenser is useful with, for example, hand-held dispensers where the dispenser can be brought into closely spaced orientation with articles to be coated, or 'targets.' The generator of the disclosure incorporates a 'fold-back' voltage-current characteristic including a reduced voltage-reduced current curve region in which the energy available at the dispenser is less than that necessary for spark ignition of solvents, atomized coating material particles, and the like suspended in the atmosphere around the dispenser.
