A communication system incorporates a method and a computer program product that provide selecting and camping on primary band in idle mode in preparation for supporting an anticipated data connection for demanding application(s) to a network system. The communication system scans, using a radio frequency (RF) communication subsystem, available network node(s) to assess communication capacity. The communication system identifies a combination of a primary band and secondary band(s) of the available network node(s) that satisfies a communication demand requirement of data throughput, data latency, and/or data quality. The communication system selects and camps on the primary band in preparation for activation of the demanding application(s) and configuring the RF communication subsystem to use the secondary band(s) to operate in carrier aggregation and/or dual connection mode to satisfy the communication demand requirement in preparation for activation of the demanding application(s) and establishment of the data connection.

Primary band selection by a carrier aggregation or dual connect aware communication device

A communication device, method, and computer program product optimize cyclic delay diversity (CDD) or linear delay diversity (LDD) for effective transmit diversity that increases transmit power by first and second transmit chains of the communication device. A controller of the communication device sequentially configures the first transmit chain to transmit an uplink signal and the second transmit chain to transmit the uplink signal with a different phase shift or time delay value. While sequentially transmitting, the controller monitors a measure of uplink signal quality at a network node for each sequentially changed phase shift or time delay values. The controller determines and uses an optimum value for the phase shift or time delay value that results in an optimum uplink signal quality over the evaluated sequence of different phase shift or time delay values.

A controller of the communication system identifies, selects, and camps on a combination of a primary band and at least one secondary band of the one or more available network nodes that satisfies a communication demand requirement for the demanding application(s) using carrier aggregation and/or dual connection in preparation for activation of the demanding application(s) and establishment of the data connection with the communication network.

The communication system identifies, selects, and camps on the primary band in preparation for activation of the at least one application and configures the RF communication subsystem to use the at least one secondary band in preparation for activation of the at least one application and for establishment of the data connection with the communication network to operate in at least one of carrier aggregation mode and dual connection mode to satisfy a communication demand requirement.

An electronic device includes a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) antenna array comprising a plurality of antenna elements configured for MIMO communication across a network. One or more sensors detect a triggering event altering a radiation correlation pattern between at least two antenna elements of the plurality of antenna elements. One or more processors then select, in response to the one or more sensors detecting the triggering event, a quantity of antenna elements from the plurality of antenna elements available for engagement in the MIMO communication across the network as a function of the radiation correlation pattern.

A communication device, method and computer program product reduce time to connect a communication session. The communication device registers for cellular communication service using a first radio access technology (RAT) or sub-RAT with a first node. The communication device determines whether a connection for a selected communication service is predicted to be available from the first node. The communication device determines whether a request for the selected communication service is predicted to occur. In response to determining that the connection for the selected communication service is unavailable from the first node and the request for the selected communication service is predicted to occur, the communication device identifies a second node that supports communication using a second RAT/sub-RAT. The communication devices triggers registration fallback from the first node to the second node. In response to receiving the request, the communication device connects to the second node for the selected communication service.

One computing device, referred to as a near-end device, receives a digital representation of background noise captured at another computing device, referred to as a far-end device. A method, a communication device and a computer program product for navigating to a location with communications to a wireless network. The method includes detecting, via a processor of a communication device, a loss of a first communication signal from a wireless network and receiving signal loss location data corresponding to a first location where the first communication signal from the wireless network was lost. The method further includes retrieving, from a memory of the communication device, first navigation data corresponding to a first route between a starting location and an end location. The method further includes generating and presenting, on an output device of the communication device, second navigation data based on the first navigation data and the signal loss location data. The second navigation data corresponds to a second route between a current location and the first location where communications to the wireless network are available.

An electronic device, method, and computer program product respond to the electronic device extending flexible displays to a display area that can be almost four times larger than a collapsed position. A controller of the electronic device monitors a sensor configured to detect an unfolded open position of the dual device housing assembly and responds to a display positioning trigger to activate translation mechanisms that translate the blade assemblies in unison. While the dual device housing assembly is unfolded, two blade assemblies may be extended, either from sides opposite to a hinge of the dual device housing display or from adjacent sides, to increase the display area.

For instance, redundant connections for a call event of a wireless device are established via different call types and utilized to exchange call media of the call event. In at least some implementations, call media from the different call types is combined to provide a combined media stream for output as part of the call event. Thus, techniques for multiple call types for a call event are applicable to increase call quality in different scenarios and environments, such as in situations where a primary call connection experiences an anomaly condition that causes quality call degradation.
