Various implementations include an external fixation device for posterior pelvic compression that allows a pin engaged into one iliac bone to be pivoted relative to the pin engaged into the other iliac bone, allowing compression of the iliac bones toward each other and the interposed sacrum and for the relative positions of the pins to be held fixed relative to each other after the compression is set. The pin to be pivoted is engaged into the iliac bone closest to the source of the injury. And, the pins and bars of the fixation device are anteriorly coupled together, which gives the patient greater transportability, as well as maintenance of reduction that will assist in the definitive surgical intervention.

External fixation devices for posterior pelvic compression and methods of use

Flurbiprofen analog compounds having an amino acid derivatized at the flurbiprofen alkanoic acid carboxyl group and terminating at an ester or amide group are effective in inhibiting cancer cells in vitro and inhibiting the growth of cancers in viva. The compounds and pharmaceutical compositions containing them are particularly useful for the treatment of lung, pancreatic and head and neck cancers.

Flurbiprofen analogs and methods of use in treating cancer

The present invention comprises a material and a method of its preparation. The material may be described as hydrophilic microparticles, comprising a cluster of organic substance with a layer of polyelectrolyte on its surface. The present invention establishes an improved method for preparing aqueous colloidal dispersions of water-insoluble organic substances using polyionic hydrophilic polymers by which the stability of the suspension is maintained after removal of the stabilizing and/or solubilizing medium of the drug. This improved method can be utilized to formulate a variety of water-insoluble organic substances.

Hydrophilic microparticles and methods to prepare same

The present invention relates generally to a non-toxic lipid conjugated with a cationic amino acid containing a guanidino group. Specifically, the naturally-occuring lipid DOPE is combined with the naturally-occurring amino acid Arginine. These compounds are useful for encapsulating and delivering pharmaceuticals and poly and oligonucleotides. These compound improve over current compounds, because they are composed of non-toxic and, in the case of Arg-DOPE, natural components, and therefore result in minimal unwanted side effects. Methods of use of the cationic lipids are also claimed.

The present invention provides bradykinin antagonists effective to inhibit cancer cell growth. Also provided are methods of inhibiting lung cancer cell growth by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a dimerized bradykinin antagonist.

The present invention discloses methods to transfect cells, comprising applying a strong magnetic field in pulses so as to affect a plurality of substance-carrying magnetic microparticles, the complexes being in physical proximity to a plurality of cells such that when the magnetic field is applied, the magnetic microparticles are pulled into the nuclei and/or cytoplasm of the cells.

Magneto-biolistic methods

Superparamagnetic particles are provided for medical applications including hyperthermia techniques, localized heating and tissue-specific release of therapeutic agents, and magnetic resonance imaging contrast enhancement, comprising superparamagnetic iron oxide and a polymer such as dextran at a ratio of about 0.5 to 0.1 w/w of polymer to iron. The particles display at least one of the following magnetic properties: (a) specific power absorption rate greater than 300 w/g Fe; (b) initial magnetic susceptibility greater than 0.7 EMU/g Fe/Gauss; and (c) magnetic moment greater than 10.sup.-15 erg/Gauss.
