A deposition apparatus includes a deposition source that produces a deposition flow of a deposited material and has an evaporation source with a material to be deposited therein, and a sputtering source that produces sputtering ions directed at the material to be deposited in the evaporation source. A deposition target is in facing relationship to the deposition source. The sputtering source is operated simultaneously with the evaporation source.

Sputtering is performed using a sputtering system having a sputtering source having a sputtering medium, a sputtering target positioned so as to be impinged upon by the sputtering medium of the sputtering source, wherein the sputtering target comprises a mass of a first loose granular material, and an open-top vessel in which the mass of the first loose granular material of the sputtering target is received and positioned so that the first loose granular material does not fall out of the open-top vessel by gravity. Some of the first loose granular material is sputtered from the sputtering target, a quantity of a second loose granular material is added to the mass of the first loose granular material in the open-top vessel, and thereafter some of the second loose granular material is sputtered from the sputtering target.

A path of travel for radiation extends to one optical element, then to another optical element, and then away from the latter. One of the optical elements is respectively reflective and non-reflective to radiation above and below a first wavelength, and the other is respectively reflective and non-reflective to radiation below and above a second wavelength. According to a different aspect, a path of travel for radiation extends to one of first and second optical elements, then to the other optical element, and then away from the latter. The first optical element is reflective and non-reflective to radiation on respective sides of a first wavelength, and the second optical element is reflective and non-reflective to radiation on respective sides of a second wavelength. The first optical element can tilt in relation to the path of travel to change the first wavelength.

Method and apparatus for optical bandpass filtering, and varying the filter bandwidth

A light source includes a first set of first beam sources having parallel output beams lying in a first-beam-source plane and a second set of second beam sources having parallel output beams lying in a second-beam-source plane. The first-beam-source output beams are parallel to the second-beam-source output beams, but are spatially offset in a direction perpendicular to the first-beam-source output beams. A spatial optical interleaver disposed receives the first-beam-source output beams and the second-beam-source output beams. The first-beam-source output beams pass unimpeded through a set of first-beam openings in the spatial optical interleaver, and the second-beam-source output beams are reflected parallel to the first-beam-source output beams and in the first-beam-source plane.
