An oil leakage recovery system for recovering leaked oil in an oil system of a gas turbine engine The oil leakage recovery system includes a collecting reservoir having an inlet opening and an outlet opening each communicating with the oil system, a piston operatively mounted with the collecting reservoir and movable between a first position in which the piston is disposed away from the outlet opening to allow oil to leak from the collecting reservoir to the oil system and a second position in which the piston blocks the outlet opening to impede oil leaking from the collecting reservoir from the collecting reservoir to the oil system, and a pressure-controlled actuator system configured to move the piston to the first position when a pressure of the oil system is below a threshold pressure value and to the second position when the pressure of the oil system is above the threshold pressure value.

Oil leakage recovery system for gas turbine engine

A contact seal assembly for a shaft of a gas turbine engine includes a seal runner adapted to be connected to the shaft and rotatable relative to a carbon ring. The seal runner includes concentric inner and outer annular portions radially spaced apart to define at least one internal fluid passage between the inner and outer annular portions of the seal runner.

Internally cooled seal runner

A bearing system comprises a bearing configured to be mounted to a shaft. A bearing housing interfaces the bearing to a structure. An annular gap is defined between an outer annular surface of the bearing housing and the structure and configured to receive oil therein. An outlet defined in an outer section surface of the bearing housing is oriented toward a component axially spaced from the bearing. A fluid passageway between the at least one outlet and the annular gap for fluid communication therebetween. In use the fluid passageway directs pressurized oil from the annular gap to the outlet to reach the adjacent component. A method for using oil from a bearing to cool or lubricate a component axially spaced from the bearing is also provided.

Bearing system with bearing damper

A gas turbine engine including a compressor rotor and a turbine rotor connected by a compressor shaft portion connected to the compressor rotor and a turbine shaft portion connected to the turbine rotor. The compressor shaft portion and the turbine shaft portion are connected axially together by a shaft coupling, between the compressor rotor and the turbine rotor, and at least a bearing rotatably coupled to the compressor shaft portion adjacent the shaft coupling. The compressor shaft and/or the turbine shaft are provided with openings permitting cooling air to enter air passages in the area of the shaft coupling and surrounding the end of the turbine shaft portion, in order to dissipate heat originating at the turbine rotor and thus reducing the thermal stresses at the bearing.

Air cooling shaft at bearing interface

The fluid pressure regulating valve is for use in an aircraft engine. The valve has at least a first fluid inlet, a first fluid outlet and a second fluid outlet. The valve comprises: a valve housing having a first valve spool interior cavity; a first fluid path within the valve housing from the fluid inlet to the first fluid outlet; a second fluid path within the valve housing from the fluid inlet to the second fluid outlet; a first valve spool mounted for reciprocal motion within the first valve spool cavity between a first position and a second position, the first valve spool having a second valve spool interior cavity and being spring-biased to its first position; and a second valve spool mounted for reciprocal motion within the second valve spool cavity between a first position and a second position, the second valve spool being spring-biased to its first position, the second valve spool closing the first fluid path at its second position when the first valve spool is substantially at its first position.

Pressure regulating valve for aircraft engine

The arrangement comprises parts coaxially mounted on the shaft, the parts including: a lockplate in rotational engagement with the shaft, the lockplate having a first side and a second side, the first side of the lockplate being in engagement with the component; a nut in threaded engagement with the shaft, the nut having a circumferential outer groove, a side of the nut being in pressing engagement with the second side of the lockplate; a damping element mounted in the groove and partially outwardly protruding therefrom; a lockwasher provided around the nut and in rotational engagement with the lockplate, the lockwasher having an interior surface in interfering engagement with the damping element; and a retaining element connected to the nut and to the lockwasher, the retaining element preventing the lockwasher from moving away from the lockplate.

Arrangement for releasably holding a component in a fixed position on a shaft

An oil scavenging system and method suitable for use in a gas turbine engine having a bearing housing. The bearing housing provides for arcuate slots within the housing and a plurality of peripherally arranged apertures disposed for cooperation with the arcuate slots. During rotation of the bearing and shaft, the rotational momentum induces rotation of the oil which distributes the oil to the peripheral circumference of the housing for eventual passage through the slots and apertures. The arrangement maximizes the use of the circumferential space of the bearing for efficient oil distribution.

Oil scavenge system for gas turbine engine bearing cavity

The present invention discloses a bleed valve for use in gas turbine engines. The valve has a piston, one end of which is positioned inside a housing which is positioned on one side of the by pass fluid flow path. The other end of the piston is positioned in an opening between the primary fluid flow path and the bypass fluid path such that the valve opens and closes in response to a pressure differential between two points in the primary fluid flow path.

Handling bleed valve

A bleed valve (20) includes a reciprocating sliding element (42) with a circular head (48) joined to an annular wall (50). An annular first chamber (52) defined by the wall (50), the head (48), and the central support (30) has a variable volume dependent upon the relative position of the sliding element (42). The valve (20) includes a housing (22) having a base (26) with first and second annular partitions (62,64) protruding from the base (26). An annular second chamber (66) is defined by the first partition (62), the platform (34) of the central support (30), the second partition (64), and the base (26). An opening (72) in the central support (30) connects the second chamber (66) in fluid communication to the first chamber (52). Control air supplied from an engine source flows through a first bore (78) into the second chamber (66) which is vented to ambient via a second bore (80). The first and second bores (78,80) have a primary and secondary metering orifice (84,86).
