A telecommunication cable of the microcable or minicable type having optical fibers () contained in a thin retaining sheath () includes an external layer () extending concentrically around the retaining sheath. The external layer has a friction coefficient lower than that of the retaining sheath and a stiffness greater than that of the retaining sheath. These characteristics reduce friction and increase the stiffness of the cable when the latter is installed by blowing or floating in a conduit.

Optical fiber cable with retaining sheath

A telecommunication cable includes a plurality of modules, each with a thin retaining sheath for clamping optical fibers together. Each retaining sheath contains plural respective modules and is mechanically coupled to the retaining sheaths of the respective modules to form supermodules that contact an outside jacket. The retaining sheath of a supermodule includes an identification color or line to distinguish the supermodules from each other.
