An apparatus includes Radio Frequency (RF) circuitry and baseband circuitry. The RF circuitry is configured to receive strobe messages that are based on a system clock over a digital interface, and to communicate synchronously with the system clock based on the received strobe messages in accordance with a Radio Access Technology (RAT) that is selected from among multiple different RATs. The baseband circuitry is configured to generate the strobe messages, to delay the strobe messages by a delay that depends on the selected RAT, and to send the delayed strobe messages to the RF circuitry over the digital interface.

Synchronization of time accurate strobe (TAS) messages

A method used in a receiver includes measuring first Received Signal Strength Indications (RSSIs) in respective first communication channels, which are located in a given frequency band and which each have a first channel bandwidth. Based on the first RSSIs, second RSSIs are computed for respective second communication channels, which are located in the given frequency band and which each have a second channel bandwidth that is larger than the first channel bandwidth. At least one of the first and second communication channels over which to receive signals at the receiver are selected using the first and second RSSIs.

RSSI estimation in multi-technology communication terminals

An apparatus includes Radio Frequency (RF) circuitry, multiple message sources and strobe multiplexing logic. The RF circuitry is configured to synchronize communication of RF signals based on reception of strobe messages. The multiple message sources are each configured to generate respective ones of the strobe messages for synchronizing the RF circuitry. The strobe multiplexing logic is configured to multiplex the strobe messages originating from the multiple message sources, and to send the multiplexed strobe messages over a single digital interface to the RF circuitry.

Multiple time accurate strobe (TAS) messaging

A method for waking up user equipment in a cellular network includes waking up a receiver module at a predetermined wakeup time to receive a transmitted paging signal, when awake, determining prevailing conditions for receiving paging signals, and skipping at least a next possible wakeup time if at least one of the prevailing conditions exceeds an associated threshold level. A user equipment for use on a mobile communications network includes a reception quality determiner to determine at least one of a reception quality of a received signal and a radio frequency (RF) level of the signal, a paging indication processor to process received paging signals, a system message handler to determine a level of activity for a cellular network, and a conditional wakeup mechanism that is configured to set a next wakeup for the user equipment time responsively to an input from at least one of the reception quality determiner and the system message handler.

Sleep estimator for cellular telephones

A method in a mobile communication terminal includes accepting a data payload at a known input rate for transmission by baseband circuitry having a known wake-up delay. Based on the known input rate and the known wake-up delay, a point in time is predicted, at which the data payload will have been only partially accepted for transmission, such that activation of the baseband circuitry at the predicted point in time will cause the baseband circuitry to be active upon complete arrival of the data payload. The baseband circuitry is activated to process the data payload at the predicted point in time.
