Techniques for initiating commands in a user interface by disambiguating user input terms are disclosed. As a system displays a set of data, the system receives a user input that includes a set of terms. The system determines the terms correspond to multiple different interpretations. The system selects a particular interpretation for the terms based on context data. The context data includes data, such as user profile data and display data. The user profile data includes data for a user entering the terms and data of other users related to the user entering the terms. The system selects and executes a command based on selecting the particular interpretation for the terms.

Content-based operation selection

A computer-readable medium, computer-implemented method, and system for generating a user interface is provided. One or more data presence indicators are generated which allows users to locate data on a graph displayed in the user interface by indicating where data is present, even when the data itself is not visible in the user interface. The system can modify the format of the data presence indicator depending on the location of the data. In one embodiment of the invention, the system can update the data presence indicators in response to a user modification of the magnification or scroll position of the user interface.

Editing query conditions, calculations, formulas and equations, or any other parts of a form includes providing a hyperlink for an element in the form to indicate to a user that a control is available for the element. Upon a selection of the hyperlink by the user, the control is presented for user interaction. Upon completion of user interaction with the control, the element is replaced with a new element responsive to user action. The control can be a list of choices, such as a pull-down menu, a dialog box, or a text entry field. The hyperlink can be color coded and underlined.
