Technique for analyzing sensor data in powder bed additive manufacturing

A device () for calibrating an irradiation system () of an apparatus () for producing a three-dimensional work piece comprises a control unit () adapted to control the irradiation system () so as to irradiate a radiation beam () onto an irradiation plane () according to a calibration pattern. The device () further comprises a sensor arrangement () adapted to be arranged in the irradiation plane () and to output signals to the control unit () in response to being irradiated with the radiation beam () according to the calibration pattern. The control unit () further is adapted to generate a digital image of an actual irradiation pattern produced by the radiation beans () incident on the sensor arrangement () based on the signals output by the sensor arrangement (), to compare the digital image of the actual irradiation pattern with a digital image of a reference pattern so as to determine a deviation between the actual irradiation pattern and the reference pattern, and to calibrate the irradiation system () based on the determined deviation between the actual irradiation pattern and the reference pattern.

The irradiation unit () comprises a radiation source () and a plurality of optical elements. A detection device () of the apparatus () is arranged so as to be capable of detecting an operational parameter of a radiation beam () emitted by the radiation source () and having passed at least one optical element of the irradiation unit ().

Apparatus and method for producing three-dimensional work pieces with a radiation detection device

A pyrometric detection device for use in an apparatus for producing three-dimensional work pieces comprises a pyrometric detecting unit () configured to receive thermal radiation emitted at different points of a detection plane in a detection direction and a calibration device () comprising a substrate () and a plurality of light guides () each having a first end () for coupling light into the light guide () and a second end () for emitting light from the light guide (), the second end () being fixed to the substrate (). The substrate () is adapted to be removably arranged relative to the pyrometric detecting unit () in such a manner that the second ends () of the plurality of light guides () are arranged in the detection plane and emit light in the detection direction, in a calibration state of the pyrometric detection device.
