The present invention relates to an access device which is provided as part of the packaging of a blunt tip cannula or blunt tip cannula/syringe combination. The access device is preferably positioned within an elongate sheath which also protects the blunt tip cannula and which also includes an internal barrier which separates the distal end of the blunt cannula from the distal end of the access device and protects one of the access pin or blunt tip cannula from exposure or contamination while the other is being used.

An intravenous connection clip for preventing separation of two tubular fluid flow connectors of respective intravenous (IV) tubing sets. The intravenous connection clip includes a generally tubular bracket for surrounding the fluid flow connectors and having large portions of the tube cut away to allow for easy visualization of the fluid flow connectors and the fluid path therethrough. The bracket of the IV connection clip having a generally 'C' shaped port lock on a first end of the bracket having a pair of first arms for releasably gripping a conventional port of a first IV tubing set, a generally 'U' shaped cannula and luer connector lock on an intermediate portion of the bracket for releasably contacting a conventional luer connector of a second IV tubing set fluidly coupled to the port of the first IV tubing set. The bracket further has a retaining clip on a second, or opposite, end of the bracket from the port lock having a pair of second arms for releasably gripping the tubing immediately adjacent the luer connector for assisting in preventing accidental disengagement of the fluid flow connectors. The second arms of the retaining clip further providing a strain relief or additional support for the tubing of the second tubing set, and retention of the IV connection clip on the tubing of the second tubing set away from the IV connectors for convenient storage between uses.

A vibration attenuating member includes at least a first layer composed of a viscoelastic material having a Shore 00 durometer of less than 50 and a rebound percentage of less than 20. Preferably the vibration dampener also includes second and third layers, coterminous with the first layer, which are composed of a foam material. The viscoelastic layer may have a non-uniform shape, such as precurved, tapered, or the like. The viscoelastic material may be creased to facilitate bending. The member has a transmissibility no greater than 1.0 in the range of from 31.5 to 200 Hz, and a transmissibility of no more than 0.6 in the range of from 200 Hz to 1250 Hz. The vibration attenuating member may form a glove, a glove liner, a portion of a glove liner, a portion of a glove, a sports glove, a wrap for a tool, or be used in some other application where vibration attenuation is desirable.

An antivibration glove includes a glove body with a front and back and a vibration dampener essentially disposed in the interior of the glove toward the palm side of the glove. The vibration dampener has at least a first layer composed of a viscoelastic material having a Shore 00 durometer of less than 50 and a rebound percentage of less than 20. Preferably the vibration dampener also includes second and third layers, coterminous with the first layer, which are composed of a foam material. The viscoelastic layer may have a non-uniform shape, such as precurved, tapered, or the like. In one embodiment the layer of viscoelastic material is relatively thicker near the glove palm area and ball of the thumb and relatively thinner adjacent the finger portion of the glove. The viscoelastic material may be creased to facilitate bending of the glove. The glove attenuates at least 40% of the applied vibration occurring in the range of from 200 Hz to 1250 Hz.

A safety dental syringe of the type adapted to receive a medication cartridge therein but having a protective needle shield thereon which is movable between a retracted position wherein the needle is exposed and a locked and extended position wherein the needle is protected and the needle shield is prevented from returning to the retracted position. A collar is attached to the distal end of the dental syringe to selectively engage a key on the needle shield as the needle shield is moved between the retracted and extended positions. The needle shield slides longitudinally between the retracted and extended positions and may be rotated about the barrel of the dental syringe to lock the needle shield in the locked and extended position. A locking mechanism is disclosed which preferably includes a series of ramps and slots adapted to engage portions of the keys on the needle shield to retain the needle shield in the locked and extended position.

A self packaged medical device, such as a syringe assembly, having a hollow body and an operative element therein for the controlled dispensing or entry of fluid into the body. An extension member operatively connected to the operative element and extending proximally beyond the proximal end of the body. The device further including a proximal barrier between the extension member and the body and a distal barrier to maintain the sterility of the interior of the device prior to use. The medical device is also disclosed in combination with a safety syringe wherein a needle protective shield is movably mounted about the body and is movable between retracted and extended positions.

Safety syringe

A protective needle shield for use on a syringe type device wherein the shield is movable between a retracted position such that the needle is exposed and an extended or locked and extended position wherein the needle is protected and the shield is prevented from returning to the retracted position. A collar is operatively attached to the distal end of syringe device to selectively engage a key on the shield as the shield is moved between the retracted and extended positions. The shield slides longitudinally between the retracted and extended positions and may be rotated about the barrel of the syringe device to lock the shield in a locked and extended position. A locking mechanism is disclosed which preferably includes a series of ramps and slots adapted to engage portions of the keys on the shield to retain the shield in the locked and extended position.

A safety syringe having a protective barrel which is movable between a retracted position wherein the needle is exposed and a locked extended position wherein the needle is protected. A collar is attached to the distal end of the sleeve to selectively engage a key on the shield in the retracted and extended positions. The locking mechanism preferably includes a series of ramps and slots which engage portions of the shield to retain the shield in the retracted and extended positions. The shield slides longitudinally between the retracted and extended positions and may be rotated about the barrel of the syringe to irreversibly lock the shield in the extended position.

A safety device including a protective needle shield which is movable between a retracted position wherein a needle is exposed and an extended position wherein the needle is protected. The needle shield including an inwardly directed and longitudinally oriented key member thereon and an elongate barrel member includes a collar member operatively associated therewith such that the key member is movably received in a keyway on the collar member as the needle shield is moved between the retracted and extended positions. The collar member also includes a locking slot thereon to receive a portion of the key member as the needle shield is rotated about the barrel member in the extended position of the needle shield.

A safety syringe of the type having a needle shield that is slidable between a needle exposing retracted position and a needle protecting extended position and wherein the needle shield is rotatable in the extended position to a locked and extended position. The safety syringe includes a collar mounted on the distal end of the syringe and a plurality of elongate keys on the interior surface of the needle shield. The keys are slidably received in various protrusions and slots on the collar to releasably retain the needle shield in the retracted and extended positions and to retain the needle shield in the locked and extended position. A needle sheath is also removably mounted on the distal end of the needle shield to cover the needle of the syringe when the needle shield is in the initial retracted position.
