A medical device comprises: a feeding tube () including a feeding lumen () with an opening () at a distal end of the feeding tube and an electrical lumen () having access openings () spaced apart along the feeding tube; a set of insulated electrical conductors () disposed in the electrical lumen, the set of insulated electrical conductors having electrically exposed portions () proximate to the access openings; and electrodes () comprising electrically conductive material portions () disposed in the access openings and electrically contacting the proximate electrically exposed portions of the set of insulated electrical conductors disposed in the electrical lumen. The electrodes include at least one upper or proximal electrode () disposed above an expected patient heart electrical centerline (CL) and at least one lower or distal electrode () disposed below the expected patient heart electrical centerline.

Multifunction feeding tube

A neonatal feeding tube () includes electronics and instrumentation for monitoring a neonate and for provides nourishment to the neonate. The tube () includes electrodes () for sensing ECG signals of the neonate. Thermistors () are placed at various points along the tube () to measure the neonate's temperature at those points. Breathing effort is measured by calculating a pressure differential at two pressure ports (). Pulse and SpOare measured at a fiber optic window (). An electrode assembly is provided. The electrode assembly is arranged for receiving a connector. The electrode assembly includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a bridge member extending between the first and second electrodes. The bridge member includes a first conductive trace extending from the first electrode, and a second conductive trace extending from the second electrode.

A quick-connecting dual electrode assembly for use in procedures such as impedance cardiography includes a body having a cable side and a patient side, and three eyelets arranged therein. A distal snap assembly having a distal stud () is secured in a first eyelet () of said three eyelets () near an end of the body. An additional stud () is arranged in a second eyelet () near a center of the body, wherein the distal stud () and the additional stud () are electrically joined by a jumper assembly. A proximal snap assembly having a proximal stud () secured in a third eyelet () at an opposite end from where the distal stud () is arranged proximally to the additional stud (), so that a distance between the proximal stud () and the additional stud () is substantially less than a distance between the distal stud () and the additional stud (). The additional stud () is electrically isolated from the patient side, and a gel portion is arranged on the patient side of the body for the first stud and the third stud. The electrode apparatus facilitates quick connection of a small dual plug so that the dual plug does not have to be the length of the distance between the two electrically connected studs, yet keeps the electrodes in contact with the patient at an optimum distance apart.

A double electrode connector for connecting to medical electrodes preferably in an impedance cardiography system includes a connector housing comprising a base having two holes therein of predetermined diameters arranged at predetermined location in the housing, with a first of the two holes associated with a first connector and a second of the two holes associated with a second connector of the double-electrode connector; a pair of biasing elements arranged along a surface of the housing so that each one of the pair of biasing elements is adapted for biasing against an electrode stud inserted in a respective hole of the two holes in the housing; a cable assembly including a twin wire cable and a bend relief, wherein each one of the pair of metal lugs is connected to one of the first connector and second connector, and the bend relief is arranged in a hole in the base to flexibly connect the twin wire cable to respective metal lugs of the pair of metal lugs. The biasing means may include handles to assist with attaching the double connector to two electrodes with a near-zero insertion force towards a patient.

A grip layer formed circumferentially around a substantial portion of a length of an ultrasound probe housing and having a high coefficient of friction. The grip layer enables an administering sonographer to maintain control over the ultrasound probe during transthoracic and other ultrasound imaging procedures while applying minimal gripping force. Furthermore, the grip layer accommodates all ultrasound viewing windows regardless of the position of the patient, the location of the sonographer relative to the patient and whether the sonographer uses a right- or left-handed technique. The grip layer is joined to an inner housing so as to form a gas- and liquid-impermeable seal between the grip layer and inner housing, enabling the ultrasound probe to withstand repeated applications of autoclaving, liquid and chemical disinfecting and other sterilization procedures without compromising the electrical integrity of the probe casing. The grip layer and inner housing form a continuously smooth casing surface that is substantially impenetrable by cleaning solvents, coupling gel or contaminants. The grip layer is preferably a substantially thin, non-compressible, elastomeric coating having a low durometer, high chemical resistance and good cut resistance. The grip layer is preferably a thermoplastic elastomer.
