A method and apparatus for identifying an unidentified sound source in a 3-dimensional sensor array calculates a position vector for each of a plurality of sensors in the array. A time Fourier transform is computed based on time samples from each of the sensors. A spatial Fourier transform is computed for the results of the time Fourier transform and in part on the position vectors calculated. All three dimensional components of the wavenumber of the received signal, k, kand kare explicitly calculated to generate spatial frequency information in all three dimensions. Direction of arrival of the received sound signal is determined in all three spatial directions providing unambiguous target localization and acoustic signature characterization.

Method and apparatus for three dimensional wavenumber-frequency analysis

A sensor system includes a pressure sensor portion, and an accelerometer. Outputs from the sensor system are handled by a signal processing system that includes a first beamforming module for inputs from a pressure sensor, a second beamforming module for inputs from an accelerometer, and an adaptive beam interpolation module. Transducer and system of arrangement for a panel array

An acoustic transducer array and method of baffle construction is presented to provide an improved array for use in underwater installations. The array is presented wherein a significant majority of the acoustic energy receiving surface is formed by lightweight acoustic baffling material while still maintaining a fully functional, fully populated array. The acoustic baffle constructed is incompressible and suitable for deep water operation while demonstrating both improved acoustic performance and positive buoyancy when necessary. In addition, the invention eliminates the non-uniform element to element spacing that occurs between sub-panels in similar arrays.
